We were supposed to take mitigation seriously, rely heavily on contact tracing and testing, and use what we learned in the spring and summer about the disease so as not to be in this place now. But some had other ideas...

I warned about this earlier in the year. It's gotten worse all over the western world because weather is the overriding factor. Even Germany with its god-like handling of the virus is getting worse by the day.Comment

Sad story here. And a cautionary tale as well:
The death toll among Washington nursing home residents continues to rise following a 300-person wedding in November, which was attended by a number of staff members.
Grant County health officials announced on Friday that 23 residents of two separate long-term care facilities had died of COVID-19 following previously-reported coronavirus outbreaks. There are also 6 additional deaths that are still under review.
Although three staff members working at local nursing homes have โself-identified as attending the wedding and worked while contagious before they knew they were ill,โ as those workers โcare for all residents...it will not be known which individual cases or deaths are tied to the staff," health officials wrote in a news release.

While Germany continues to do better than most of western civilization, they continue to climb in deaths per capita as compared to the rest of the world. Over the last several weeks they have gone from #79 in the world to #63 and climbing.
Daily and weekly updated statistics tracking the number of COVID-19 cases, recovered, and deaths. Historical data with cumulative charts, graphs, and updates.
Indiana isn't doing well. We are 13th in the nation at 1035 deaths per capita. Compare to Sweden which is at around 750. Interestingly, if Sweden were state in the US they would be #31 behind Montana and with below average deaths.
Hmmm. No masks in Sweden. Doing better than the US.

Amputation happened with the Broadway actor (whose name escapes me at the moment), who ultimately didn't make it anyway. He was hospitalized with Covid early in the pandemic and remained there for some time.
We know there are theories about the clotting issues some experience with Covid-19, but I don't know if they've exactly zeroed in on the exact cause and have anything in the toolkit to avoid this, or if all they can do is treat the symptoms and hope for the best if it presents.Nuntius was right for a while. Here is the article reporting the death of the actor who had his leg amputated due to Covid-19. He died in July after battling Covid in the hospital for 3 months.

The reason most likely is the general inflammation response and the platelets.Comment

Something is fishy with Swedens numbers. Look at this chart and see the trend. They plateau for 4 to 5 days then a spike then a dip rinse and repeat since early November.
https://ourworldindata.org/coronavir...ickerSort=desc
Edit: OK, seriously...it's just the fact they are not doing a good job reporting numbers on a daily basis. I don't think it's anything fishy. It's just not a thing there as we know they don't wear masks and wipe down everything.Last edited by BlueNGold; 12-15-2020, 10:08 PM.Comment

Swedish PM and their Covid Commission discuss the current state of the pandemic in Sweden:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...vid-resurgence
also take a look at their demographics in Sweden. They are not as homogeneous as the other Nordic countries.
edit: in addition to being more diverse Sweden simply has a larger population. Itโs closer to being the size of a European country than any other Nordic country.Last edited by BlueNGold; 12-15-2020, 11:03 PM.Comment
