Navigating hospitals here in still a massive PITA
Wife and I were riding ATV’s last week and we had an accident. ATV flipped three times (or so I am told) and landed on my side.
We went into the local trauma hospital and I could not see my wife as she was in the female ER room. Weirdly enough I was given a mask but she never was. I still dont remember anything from Saturday or Sunday. I remember 5 minutes before the accident and the next thing I remember is waking up in the ambulance going to the ED
My wife just got an air ambulance to Germany and so far they said she has a fractured ankle, knee and shoulder. She also has a torn or ripped ACL and MCL. I had a concussion (I think, they made me take some test thing this morning) and bruised or broken ribs (waiting on a CT and X-ray result)
I was not allowed to see my wife after I was discharged. They let me see her when she was being discharged to go to the airport and even that was only for a few seconds.
Also was super weird in the Romanian hospital. No food is served. So family has to bring you all your meals, water, and toilet paper. And she could not walk so they had her wearing a diaper and the nurses changed that. I guess in Germany they have some special bed she can use to roll over to the toilet.
On the plus side I could not sleep the other night so I woke up and used the Wifi in the ED to watch the game basketball. So I got to watch one game (even though it was on at 0300)
MMore good news as I was this typing message. The doctors came in and said I dont have anything wrong with my neck, spine, or back. So thank goodness the company required all of us to wear helmets
From 1994 to 2019 I worked at America's largest off road sanctioned ATV race and I can tell you that I have seen every single type of ATV accident you can imagine. They are no fun and I was always amazed that people would willingly get on these things and jump them sometimes 20-30' in the air going down a 45 degree hill. Helmets are brain savers that is for certain.
Hope for a speedy recovery for you.
P.S. from about 2004-08 Rik Smits would participate in the motorcycle portion of the race (we had both ATV & Motorcycle and ultimately started to run UTV's), you haven't lived until you see a 7'4" guy run his bike through the woods. We always wondered how we would transport him if he got injured with a broken leg.Last edited by Peck; 06-21-2022, 12:47 AM.Leave a comment:

Sounds absolutely awful man. Hopefully your wife gets good news as well. My wife has treated many ATV patient's and many have spinal cord injuries.Leave a comment:

Well, my wife and I went on an anniversary cruise that we had planned for last year but was postponed due to covid last week. To get on the ship you had to be double vaccinated and have a negative covid test the night before.
Well reading online the cruise ships social media page it looks like a good 1/3 came off of the ship and tested positive, including my wife. I somehow have continued to test negative and yes my wife is symptomatic (flu like symptoms).
This ship was immaculately clean, they were constantly disinfecting, the entire staff wore KN95 mask religiously.
I say all of that to say that while the virus has mutated downwards, I believe, it is still very much with us.
Good on you for traveling. I want to take my wife to Paris but I don't know. Not really worried about COVID as I am luckily in decent shape and healthy, but worried about the whole quarantine aspect if I did test positive. My parents graciously agreed to watch my daughter for a week if we went, but I'd hate for them to have to watch her for ten extra days if we tested positive and had to quarantine there.Leave a comment:

We won't get rid of covid for any length of time. It is one of the most infectious pathogens around. In my opinion mitigate the risk of disease and live e a healthy life style and the vast majority will be fine.
I am still waiting on my optional 2 nd booster but I am not sure it will do much to prevent infections. My kids just got boosted which gave me some reassurance for our summer travel plans.

I hate to be that guy, but I thought I would pass along that while running the numbers for last week I saw a decent spike in positive covid 19 cases we transported. Haven't seen these types of numbers in months.
The acuity is down, in other words they don't seem to be as sick as they were say a year ago, but it has had a decent increase.Leave a comment:

Too much to cut and paste, but this piece about vaccines and immunity seems to make sense to me. Anything in here that looks off to anyone (Gamble1)?

It mutating and gaining an advantage over a vaccine is nothing new. Basically you get sick from many types of viruses even if you have seen it before because you lost some immunity.Leave a comment:
