Cool story. One of my all time favorite tunes 'Institutionalized' by ST. The line "all I wanted was a Pepsi, just one pepsi, and she wouldn't give it to me" cracked me up everytime even though the song was about teen angst.
Love that list you posted. Brings back memories indeed.... have a beer with Fear, way too many times.

Re: Nirvana's place in the world of music....
I think this is a good time to mention this.
I have Suicidal Tendencies' old PO Box. So if anyone gets ahold of one of their old records, it says in the notes somewhere to send a card to PO Box 388 in Venice if they want fan updates.
So here it is, 30 years later and once every week or two, I get mail addressed to Suicidal Tendencies. (I only took it personally the first time).

No. I listen to a lot of music (although I admit, punk isn't my cup of tea) and I've only heard of about 10 or 15 of those bands too.Leave a comment:

Good lord...I check in on this thread a few hours later and there's a whole new page of 25 posts.
Should feel bad that I've only heard of about 15 of the bands on that top 100?Leave a comment:

Re: Nirvana's place in the world of music....
This punk thing started because me and I think ilive4sports said Nirvana made punk mainstream. Constellations said we were wrong, Nirvana wasn't punk. Nirvana doesn't sound punk to me for the most part. And although I do consider Bleach a punk album, I'm not opposed to it being called something else. The point I was making was that Nirvana brought punk to the masses because they had punk roots. I stumbled across a "Smells Like Teen Spirit" single before Nevermind exploded when I was in grade school (I think I found it in Glendale parking lot). When I heard "Aneurysm" on the B sides I decided I had just heard punk and I wanted more. I went to the library, looked up bands in books and then I found their CDs at the library and checked them out. When I see things Nirvana is apart of like, The Year Punk Broke or their exhibit Nirvana: Bringing Punk to the Masses, I can't help but to think tons of people had a similar experience.
So does it sound punk? Is it REAL punk? Maybe not. Anyone can have an opinion on what real punk is, or real hip hop, etc. And I totally respect that you were more aware of music than I was when all this was actually happening LA. But I think Cobain began playing punk "anyone can be in a band" songs. What made Nirvana is he found a way to make those songs into a catchy radio friendly smash hit album, opening a door for punk.
I in fact agreed they made punk mainstream, due to their fanbase.Leave a comment:
