If we were looking at Italy numbers, or even U.K. numbers, I'd understand a lock down, but we're not. For whatever reason, we're looking at swine flu numbers here in North America. Is it worth killing businesses, jobs, and the livelihoods and families which rely on them to hide us from the swine flu? It wasn't when Obama was in office. How odd.

The only thing I can disagree with Mr. President and Andrew Cuomo over is the 15-day period. I'd extend it to a month, or even the first of May (seven weeks, basically). We can handle that, especially if the democrats stop being monsters and allow the stimulus bill to pass.

Let things play out for a month. Continue testing. Continue collecting data. Continue applying the promising treatment, and monitoring its effectiveness.

If, after a month, the case fatality rate is under 1.5%, and the treatment remains effective (and if it is, the CFR should be well under 1.5%), it's time to open America (mostly) back up. At that point, the damage done from keeping things shut down would be worse than the damage done from the virus.
    You first.

It’s nearly 8 months until the election. The dude might be using a walker and drooling on himself by then. Can’t believe they nominated him but I guess he’s the best they got.

I am curious on how they measure viral clearance. The pcr method can be misleading since the body is destroying the virus the rna will actually be in the body but may not be a functioning virus.

but note that the according to the other indicators too, the control group actually does slightly better than the treatment group

It's the combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin that's showing huge promise, not hydroxychloroquine on its own.

French study finds anti-malarial and antibiotic combo could reduce COVID-19 duration - Tech Crunch

The study was conducted after reports from treatment of Chinese patients indicated that this particular combo had efficacy in shortening the duration of infection in patients.

The patient mix included in the study included six who showed no symptoms whatsoever, as well as 22 who had symptoms in their upper respiratory tract (things like sneezing, headaches and sore throats, and eight who showed lower respiratory tract symptoms (mostly coughing). 20 of the 30 participants in the study received treatment, and the results showed that while hydroxycholoroquine was effective on its own as a treatment, when combined with azithromycin it was even more effective, and by a significant margin.
