Mike Chappell of FOX59/CBS4 in Indianapolis first reported that Ryan had been benched. Zak Keefer of The Athletic reported that Ryan had a Grade 2 shoulder separation and won't practice this week. But Colts coach Frank Reich said the move to Ehlinger would have happened anyway, and the plan is for him to start the rest of the season.

So there was some cover for the move (Shoulder separation) but the team is going out of their way to NOT use that excuse?
Nuntius was right for a while. I was wrong for a while. But ultimately I was right and Frank Vogel has been let go.

I'm pleasantly shocked by this. I didn't think the Colts would have the balls to make a change. But with our OLine playing so poorly, makes sense to switch to someone with some mobility. Ryan isn't the future (or the present apparently) so makes sense to see how Sam plays.

They should've just gone with Sam at the start of the season instead of getting Matt Ryan to begin with which I said to begin with.

That being said Frank/Chris are gone at the end of the season regardless(at least I hope so)

If Irsay doesn't fire Ballard and Reich at the end of the season, it shows the incompetence of Irsay running this organization.

The Colts probably don’t want any controversy if Ryan gets healthy in a few weeks.

The Colts have probably thought about this for weeks given how bad things were going.

If someone would have told me before the season that Ryan would have as many wins as Brady and Rodgers through 7 games, I’d have felt pretty good. Turns out he indeed has as many wins as them and is getting benched…

3-3-1 isn’t a horrible record, but it feels like watching a 1-6 team because the offense has just been that bad. It just seemed brutally difficult to score every time we had the ball. There were very few comfortable drives in rhythm. It was 2011 Colts offense bad.

We looked at the tough upcoming schedule and saw the writing on the wall that this would go off the rails fast. So might as well give Ehlinger the keys.

Yes I remember you not being a fan of the move. I thought we’d get Rivers 2.0 and put ourselves in position for the playoffs. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Wentz and Ryan make you realize just how good Rivers was that season here.

I guess you got your answer.... And that answer is that somebody that matters is NOT happy with 3-3-1 at this point in the season and how they looked getting there.

According to Reich’s comments, Ehlinger has been looking really good in practice lately. Maybe it’s just lip service, but I’m definitely curious to see what he looks like in a real game. We really don’t have anything to lose at this point.

He was easily the best QB in preseason, but he was mostly going against the other teams backups. So we'll see.

If he sucks we get a better draft pick, if he ends up killing it we have a QB for the future. Win Win.

Jimmy's just looking for a temp solution until Arch Manning is in the draft.

                      And Marvin Harrison Jr.

rivers was always underrated. those san diego teams were frequently very bad. he rarely had the level of talent ryan had in his one super bowl season.

we don't have anything to lose but how can you believe anything that comes out of the coaching staff or org at this point?

It’s believable that he’s looked good in practice because he also looked good in pre-season. But obviously none of that is the same as playing a real regular season game. We shall see soon enough how that goes.

I see that the media, and also social media, is now overlooking the job Rivers did as a Colt. He's being lumped in as another failure following Luck's retirement. He's actually the only bright spot. Arguably it was a failure because he only played one year. Or that his success created the idea they could replicate it with another plug and play QB. But it wasn't failure for that year and he ranks much higher than the other attempts to replace Luck.
I guess because he only played the one year, people are just misremembering some things. He played one year and retired because he wanted to. Not because the Colts wanted to move on and he only got the one season as a failed experiment.
Nuntius was right for a while. I was wrong for a while. But ultimately I was right and Frank Vogel has been let go.

EVERYTHING that they say is 99.999% BS. Reich kissed Ryan's butt to an astounding level after benching him. If you can find it somewhere - it should make you a little ill reading it. It's THAT bad.

The only thing that's speaking loudly to me - is Irsay's complete silence. To me - that says it was his 'suggestion' that a move be made. And I'm not sure that Frank had an option.

But back to the crap that Reich said - it's all damage control and sucking up and kissing butt and trying to sound compassionate and .............. it's all complete BS. You simply can't speak that highly about a guy and then replace him like a worn out pair of boxers.
