I've said it a few times, but I'm going to reiterate one last time. We don't know what Morway has done or hasn't done, but it's best to remember he couldn't do anything without Larry's approval. People can make him the good guy or bad guy all they want to satisfy their own biases, but at the end of the day, he and Larry are a team, something today's announcement reinforces.
Absolutely, and on top of it all, Herb Simon has given this duo his stamp of approval for the past and now heading into the near future. So he should not get a pass either if one is upset with Bird and/or Morway's actions.

He didn't say this makes anyone a genius. It was brought up to defend against saying he sucked.

I'll head to the local watering hole and enjoy a pint for sure.

Another thing in Morway's defense... he showed up in 1999, saw us in the Finals, was there when Walsh made one more push for the finals before he went senile, saw that push get destroyed on a November night in Detroit, stayed with Larry, got thrown under the bus with Larry during the 3 year plan, and saw Paul George damn near lock down Derrick Rose in the playoffs. Now he gets to ride along with Larry on our way back to the finals. I have no problems with him coming back.

Don't worry Heisenberg... Trust Larry and you will be rewarded.

        Conference Finals!!!

Maybe not declarative, but why would he come back after a successful stint as a GM just to report to somebody else? He can get other jobs being the head decision maker and all reports on that guy are that he has a massive ego. Does that really sound like someone who will want to report to someone else on basketball decisions? Lindsey turned down offers to run his own team, only to accept a lateral position with a different organization? It just doesn't make sense.

If it's true that Morway didn't get along with others in the organization....

Does anyone else now think that Bird went to bat for Morway? Essentially saying he'd stay if Morway stays, everyone else in the office be damned. I mean, we know from his reluctance to fire Obie how loyal Bird could be to his people.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not claiming to know everything or even anything about what the conflict was between the parties in question, let alone who I think was "right", but it does concern me to some extent.
From what I have seen first hand I feel pretty confident that Jim O'Brien was one of those people as well. At the very least I feel very confident that what we were saying here Morway was saying at the fieldhouse.

Then David Morway has been terrible at it. I mean just terrible. All we hear every year is about a failed trade at the deadline. TJ Ford, Brand Rush, OJ Mayo.
                    WHAT??????

You mean the guy who arranged the largest sign & trade exception in league history, the architect of dumping Jermaine O'Neal's bloated contract and many other things.

We know for a fact that it was Morway who all by himself did the Peja sign & trade & we know for a fact that he was the lead in the Jermaine trade.

From what I have heard he is actually the guy who is the lead in all trades. Doesn't mean Bird isn't involved & it doesn't mean that he isn't working under Bird's direction.

Just means that there is no way in God's green earth you can consider him crap.

I know a lot of people on here are upset that he has been the hatchet man on Daniels, Craig & Perkins. But if you look at each case individually and not look at them through blue & gold colored glasses you might take a different line of thinking.

Also again we don't really know if Morway was just a hatchet man because he wanted to be or if he was acting under orders. You know kind of like how Walsh used Bird to fire Thomas.

Edit: Also on a personal note I will say this & I feel confident that this does not break any of my agreements with PS&E for where I sit. But Morway sits right behind me for most of the games & on a couple of the games set right next to me. So I can tell you that nobody sufferes more when we lose than he does. He often times looked & sounded like he was passing a Kidney Stone at the beginning of this year.

For those of you defending Morway....this guy has been here over 10 years. He has been directly involved in all the decisions. Both good and bad over the last 10 years. There has been alot of bad over the last 10 years, and more recently the last 5-6. How you can support bringing this guy back. No reason to bring back the same duo who has produced lack luster results. If you want to bring back Bird, thats cool with me, but i'm sorry I can' support bringing back his right hand man / GM. Need some fresh perspective in this franchise.

So you think we would have done a significantly better job with anyone else? How?

We essentially did a Chicago/Portland/OKC style rebuild on the fly, without any top level picks. That's incredible.

You are all over the place.

You ask how anyone can support him after it's already been explained how people can support him, or at the very least in some cases why Morway isn't automatically crucified.

The real zinger: You refer to them as "the same duo who has produced lack luster results" before AND after you champion the return of Larry Bird! And you call for a fresh perspective!

Eh, kind of shady for the fans how Bird doesn't make a long-term commitment, but whatever I guess.

                              Anyway, next: Vogel.

What lackluster results though? What else could we have asked for given our situation after the brawl?

It seems like a masterfully handled rebuild to me. We're under cap, we have young players that are growing, some of them won't turn out, other's still have chances.

Without a top 3 pick, what more do you want? Who else has done a better rebuild in the situation we were in?

I've watched a lot of basketball, and it's unheard of to rebuild on the fly like that without a top pick.
