How dare anyone call him Ace Ventura. He is the absolute twin of Lex Luthor in the old Superman movies.
You know how hippos are made out to be sweet and silly, like big cows, but are actually extremely dangerous and can kill you with stunning brutality? The Pacers are the NBA's hippos....Matt Moore CBS Sports....

Yes. Stuckey clearly had the yips, and Vogel refused to take him out.

Yes, there were some missed coaching opportunities but no one bats 1.000. We couldn't shoot outside of the midrange tonight if our lives counted on it.

Is Rick a mixed bag, maybe.. but he's gotten this young team to the ECF.

I think we need to slow the roll a bit here.

He's more than earned his contract this year.
Let us have one night to wallow in self pity.

Also, while I agree with you generally, one of the most veteran coaches in the league absolutely has to have the presence of mind to call a timeout to help a young team avoid AT LEAST one of the two late game costing turnovers so far in this series.

In game 1, isn't it up to the inbounder to call time out, Rick was on the opposite side of the court.....

In game 3, I'm assuming Rick didn't call timeout in that situation cause he thought we had a better chance not playing against a set defense

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt on everything except playing Doug McDermott to start the 4th quarter of game 2

To your first point, Joe Maz ran halfway across the court to call a timeout in an important moment. Don't make excuses for him. The guy has been a head coach in the NBA for literally almost as many years as Andrew Nembhard, the inbounder in game 1, has been alive on this Earth.

To your second one, I would argue that playing 1 on 4 is basically a much worse proposition than 5 on 5.

Carlisle doesn't need to be fired, but can we please hire an assistant coach whose job is literally just to manage timeouts at the end of the game.

                I'm available. 50-50 we're up 2-1 if I had that job.

Lifelong Denver Broncos fan here..... We were graced with one season of Nathaniel Hackett as our head coach two years ago. His late game clock management was so bad early in the season that they literally hired a veteran assistant to sit the box and advise him through a headset on such matters as when to call a timeout. Lol... It can be done.

Wide open? More like caught it on the run forced to shoot a fadeaway. You let the guy who took just 3 shots the entire game take a season-deciding three pointer in the ECF? He's a solid role player, not Reggie Miller!
It should have been a play for Nembhard, dude was hot and shot 4-7 for 3 this game, but ofc he's forced to inbound

Watching this team play offense all year has made people a little desensitized to how unique it is imo. He's done an awesome job. These guys play really really fun and effective basketball. The defense still needs a lot of work, but some of that will be personnel.

But Nembhard had the ball the possession before attacking before the Celts D was set and he coughed it up. Nemby was clearly incredible, but he was overzealous in this case. Despite the generally Celts leaning officiating, this was not a foul. But rather Nemby trying to do too much.

So can one have it both ways? RC’s fault no matter what many will say. Lack of player decision making and execution? Superior opponent with tons more experience? Not absolving Rick from any mistakes, but this is knee jerk, frustrated reaction. RC didnttdribble off Hali’s leg late in game one. Where are the trade Hali threads?

He coughed it up because Rick told him to keep going instead of taking a timeout! That's exactly the point! He should have stopped him when he was going out of control, and went with him for the actual play!

We know for a fact Rick told him this? What if he said push it ip to see what’s there but don’t force it if we don’t have the advantage. When RC got here, some on here maligned him for micromanaging. Now he’s giving too much freedom or being criticized for trusting his players. Besides if he sets up a play there that does anything but get a hoop, then it would somehow still be his fault I’m sure.

You're the coach, you see your sophomore point guard dribbling into 4 defenders. Or you see your sophomore point guard failing to inbound the ball. What should you do?
