Perfect timing now that Lilard trade talks have picked up. We can be that 3rd team that may be required
"So, which one of you guys is going to come in second?" - Larry Bird before the 3 point contest. He won.

Typical Pacers, give a lot of playing time to some guy that is not part of the future so he can screw your draft position.

Also never trade this guy until his value is reduced in such a way that you are going to be lucky to get a couple of 2nd round picks for him, bravo scammer

After contract extension negotiations stalled out, Buddy Hield and the Indiana Pacers have started a dialogue to work on finding a potential trade with another team, league sources say.

Hield is open to a trade elsewhere, according to rival team sources, but no deal is imminent and there aren’t any current substantive talks with any other team. The Pacers did offer Hield an extension in recent weeks, but it’s believed their proposal did not make the seven-year guard feel desired, league sources said.

Hield is in the last year of his contract for the 2023-24 season at $19.2 million and is slated to be one of the top free agents next summer. Hield is the NBA leader in 3-pointers made over the last five seasons with 1,381. Golden State’s Stephen Curry (1,261) and Portland’s Damian Lillard (1,118) rank second and third, respectively, behind Hield’s 3-pointers made in the past five years.

Multiple teams are expected to express interest in a possible trade for Hield and those conversations are expected to continue as NBA training camps open up over the next two weeks.

Hield joined the Pacers during the 2021-22 season in the Tyrese Haliburton trade from the Sacramento Kings and immediately emerged as a positive veteran leader and productive running mate alongside the franchise’s cornerstone in Haliburton. Hield, 30, averaged 16.8 points and five rebounds while shooting 42.5 percent from 3-point range last season.

“I love Buddy,” Pacers president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard said in April. “There’s some things that he does that’s not on the court, the way he keeps practice light.”

Wait, when was Buddy's trade value higher?

            Trade deadline last year.

Possibly. But he was on a higher salary last year with a lower salary cap so harder to match salaries, and there were way fewer teams that it would make sense for in the middle of the season.

If the team could have found the right team/offer at the deadline, 1.5 years of Hield would be more valuable, but the Pacers have a greater chance of getting a good offer now than they did then. So it's kind of a toss up.

Anybody can match 20mil, it’s pretty easy actually.

Good. Wish Buddy nothing but the best but this needs to happen if he isn't willing to accept less money and a 6th man role.

20 million is fairly easy to match. But it's harder in season because there are fewer realistic ways to match salaries. Take the Brogdon trade from Indiana to Boston for example. That deal makes more sense in the off-season when the roster limits are relaxed. That kind of deal probably doesn't happen at the deadline.

Also, teams are often reluctant to trade players in their rotation in season. So you often have to find the majority of the salary in a negative salary player instead. Those players are around, but not every team has one. The Pacers got lucky that the Cavaliers had a hurt Rubio on a perfect salary for the LeVert trade for example.

Seems like Buddy didn’t see himself as a long term 6th man. I respect that.

How about this for a trade: Rockets take Hield for an unprotected 1st and KPJr. who we just release?

We have the depth and we get substantive value back. Both teams win.

I’d do that trade. I’ve even do Porter Jr and Whitemore

Pretty spot on assessment of the Pacers over the last several years on both fronts, and throughout their NBA history on the latter.
