It could. Sabonis is more of a playmaking center than Embiid. Honestly, Ben Simmons would be important for perimeter and stopping players from attacking the paint so much which in turn "protects" Sabonis from being a de facto full time rim protector.

Shooting is not the only way to create space great passers like Ben create space with their passing.
Jokic and Gordon both shoot twice as many shots from 3 as Simmons shoots from any distance beyond 10 feet.

Jokic's average distance of shot was 10.6. Gordon's in Denver was 11.6. Sabonis's was 8.8. And Simmons? 4.3. We aren't talking about the same stratosphere of defensive respect. Simmons' passing ability helps, but not nearly that much.

I mean, we’d get more televised games and all but, I dunno if I’d trade anything other than Sabonis for him.

I'm not sure I agree with that. They traded two starters from last year (Horford and Richardson). They were in a box because of the Horford/Harris contracts and did about as much as they could (with 1 exception detailed below). Curry ended up being a pretty important player for them because of how weak they are in that area.

The only thing they didn't do was to split up Simmons and Embiid. That would have been the major shakeup they decided to delay on.

We all know that you would stop wearing pants if the Pacers ever get the number one seed
