It's rather interesting that liberal areas are where (by far) the biggest issues are in this country, yet liberals try to claim conservatives are not taking it seriously. Same with Europe where all those liberal socialists are running around. Apparently they don't take it all that serious.Comment

The Scientist Whose Doomsday Pandemic Model Predicted Armageddon Just Walked Back The Apocalyptic Predictions - The Federalist
A lot of the out-of-control panic we're seeing over a virus with a likely sub-1% infected fatality rate is due to Neil's horrific (in more ways than one) predictions. He predicted an enormous death total -- millions for the U.S. -- and it's now apparent we're not even going to come close to that. It looks like his new prediction for the U.S. (based on his adjusted U.K. totals) would fall between 75,000-100,000 deaths -- that's even lower than what I'm projecting. Wow.
USA rate is currently 1.44 %

So that bad number of 1.44% is a very tiny sample of those people most likely to have the virus.
The number of flu deaths in the US is likely around 50,000 this flu season. We have 1200 Covid-19 deaths.
Not saying it's a hoax. Not discounting it. Just being real and putting it into perspective.
Finally, notice that a lot of well known people are known to have contracted the virus....and many were early reports. That makes me believe A LOT of people already had it.
If it's really true a significant percentage of the population has had it, even if half compared to people who've had the flu....hmmm. Just something to ponder.

Coronavirus Response: Hospitals Rated Best, News Media Worst - GallupOriginally posted by Justin McCarthyWASHINGTON, D.C. -- Americans are generally positive in their evaluations of how each of nine leaders and institutions has handled the response to the coronavirus situation. Eight of the nine receive majority positive ratings -- led by U.S. hospitals, at 88% approval. Only the news media gets a more negative than positive review.Comment

^^ But there are plans for distributing the masks. Typical click-bait. Only give part of the story.

Nearly 1.5 million N95 respirator masks are sitting in a U.S. government warehouse in Indiana and authorities have not shipped them because they are past their expiration date, despite Centers for Disease Control guidelines that have been issued for their safe use during the coronavirus outbreak, according to five people with knowledge of the stockpile...โฆโฆโฆโฆโฆโฆโฆโฆ.
It was unclear Thursday when the expired N95 masks in the Indiana warehouse would ship. FEMA did not respond to questions about the CBP stockpiles, and TSA officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
One administration official with knowledge of the plans said the decision was made to provide the masks to TSA because FEMA has been able to acquire a large number of new masks for distribution this week. President Trump said during a White House briefing Wednesday that FEMA has shipped or is in the process of shipping 9.4 million N95 respirators and 20 million surgical masks for hospitals.Comment

Home quarantine Shanghai style. Police are today installing alarms on our door. We can open the door 4 times a day at set times to dump rubbish/collect food. This is on top of existing monitoring by compound security guards, nosy neighbours and the prospect of prison if we go out

Coronavirus Update:
@pzf
Last night EMS in New York took 6,406 medical 911 calls. The highest volume ever, surpassing 9/11/01.
Gotta be fake news, it's a hoax. Not even as bad as the flu.

Like I've been saying the whole time the danger isn't really in how likely you are to die (unless you are older than 60). The danger is in how it spreads like wildfire.Comment

In any event, this isn't a black or white issue. There's nothing wrong with being optimistic of potential treatments. There is a problem if all you do is spew negativity without recognizing there are some things going on that look hopeful.
The key is that this isn't about Trump. If you want to make it about Trump don't forget he instituted a travel ban in late January and while he had a brief delay accepting it as a major issue it didn't take him long. And no he never said it was a hoax. See, smart people can see through this agenda and we will call it out every time.Comment

Also Eleazar, a huge issue is the impact this will have on the medical profession and the delayed treatment and surgeries because the hospitals are buried. So the deaths are going to increase even if it's not Covid-19. We had better flatten the curve. I know that. The longer the cases and deaths rise, the harder it's going to be overall. Once it levels, we should be able to dig our way out of it. We may be digging a lot of graves but at the end of the day the nation will emerge.
