And in his post-game presser - Frank was kind of defensive and said - "We're 3-3-1". Like that's a good thing.

The high rankings and reputation it established in recent years was really all about run blocking, which as you point out has mysteriously disappeared so it now mirrors the ongoing awful pass blocking.

But Wentz and Rivers both suffered the same fate behind this line. And it was no secret that Ryan would basically be a reprise of the Rivers approach. Ballard/Reich/Irsay should have either not gone back to that well given the o-line challenges and the lack of deep threat on the outside or they should have acquired new talent that legitimately enhanced those weaknesses.

They were hoping Ryan would be Rivers 2.0. Make no mistake - Rivers was really good and the results were really good: an 11-5 season and a playoff game in Buffalo that we could have won if we had done more with our opportunities. But the protection and run game were better back then. And Rivers on the Colts looks like prime Dan Marino compared to Matt Ryan on the Colts.

Of all of the patchwork QBโ€™s since Luck, Rivers was obviously by far the best. He fit in well here and played really well. All of that was without a normal training camp or pre-season. Shame he wasnโ€™t a bit younger. It wound have been nice to have him multiple season.

I"m just bummed. We should be better than this.

Does Reich need somebody on staff to help with game planning for an opponent? We just get our butt kicked out of the gate.

New o-line coach? I know we've lost some talent, but it really seems they've just fallen off a cliff.

F***, IDK. Just disappointed that this is the team from the last two games of last year, not the team from the middle of last season.

It makes me wonder if Rivers doing so well set the stage for the belief the team could just repeat that success, or even do it better, and find another "plug and play" QB.
I'm really doubting anything is fixable at this point until at least Reich is gone. A HC handing one side of the game is OK as long as things are going good and it's working, but when the seat is getting hot I think it turns into a second-guessing mess.
You're not just calling a play for the moment, you're calling a play (or not calling a play) because you're thinking about the ramifications on your job. Gambles get weird. A weird, non-sensical mix between conservative play calls and gambles.
Of course with Reich non-sensical gambles are nothing new... But I digress...
Nuntius was right for a while. I was wrong for a while. But ultimately I was right and Frank Vogel has been let go.

I'm sure they are not. This is note the Pacers who seem to be content with mediocrity. I don't doubt this organization's drive to win championships.

^^ Well, I think we can agree that thru 7 games - this doesn't look like anything close to a championship team. And the only move they have really made is getting rid of a kicker ?? Sure - a few insignificant moves with the practice squad and all that - but nothing that has an impact on the team itself. I don't see things turning around in the last 10 games. I'll gladly eat my words if they do, but the playoffs are a looooooooong shot - never mind a ring.

Whoa, Mike Chappell on Fox 59 is saying the Colts will bench Ryan and start Ehlinger on Sunday. Itโ€™s on their main page.

                  wow!

Second-year quarterback Sam Ehlinger has been named the Colts' starter over veteran Matt Ryan for the remainder of the regular season, head coach Frank Reich announced Monday.

Reich also announced Ryan has a shoulder injury that will keep him out for some time, and he will be out for Week 8 against Washington. Regardless of Ryan's injury, Reich added that the plan going forward is for Ehlinger to be the team's starting quarterback.

I didn't really see that coming.

Well, that qualifies as a major change.

About time. May not win anymore but a different type of QB is needed

Or maybe it was because Ryan was leading the league in interceptions and fumbles ??
