Re: 2010-2011 NBA Random Thoughts Thread part VII: Advent Children
Well im talking about the game, not the boxscore. Boston is getting any shots they want, just aren't making some of them. + Boston had a few offensive violations. Cleve is really in the game because of Hickson and Sessions on offense now, not their team defense.
Edit - Still, they'll probably won't be in the bottom on defense this year (probably around the middle), at least till they keep this effort.Last edited by ballism; 10-27-2010, 08:03 PM.Comment

Not as bad as we think. To take a page from Bill Simmons, I think they might have some "Ewing Theory" potential. Wouldn't be shocked at all to see them end up with a better record than the Pacers.Comment

I think Cleveland is going to be better than the Pacers, they have a chance to make it to the playoffs(7th, 8th)
Yeah Bogut is looking good@WhatTheFFacts: Studies show that sarcasm enhances the ability of the human mind to solve complex problems!Comment

Well, their ceiling is easily higher than the Pacers floor, so I can see them doing better than Indiana but I dont' think it's likely. I think Philly, Toronto and Washington are the worst teams in the East, by some order. Then Cleveland and Detroit in another tier. Those two may have an outside shot at the playoffs if everything goes well for them and a few of the other teams under-perform but in my view it's a very, very long shot.
One problem I see with Cleveland is that I don't know where defense is coming from. Varejao can't do all by himself. They were a good defensive team but that doesn't mean they'll keep being good.
Parker/Moon/Gibson (or whatever PG is playing off the ball)/Eyenga is one of the weakest wing rotations in the league.
Mo Williams can't run an offense to save his life, he's more of a short-2 in a PGs body. Sessions is an interesting player, very good in what he does well, but easy to limit due to his weaknesses.
And while the big man rotation of Varejao, Hickson and Jamison is passable, their depth beyond that is non-existent.
Mo Williams + Jamison are volume scorers who should be playing off the bench for a good team. When Mo Williams was running the point for the Bucks playing with Redd and Bogut, they were a 30 wins team. Jamison was the 1st option for the Wizards last season and they were in pace to win 20 games. The less they play and the larger the role Sessions+Hickson have, the better for the Cavs. If they play a lot of minutes and get a large amount of touches... they'll be in trouble.
If they can be a good defensive squad or Sessions explodes into the fringe All-Star he could be if he expanded his skill-set (jumper, better decision making... he's too reliant on the pick'n'roll/drive'n'kick combo right now) then they'll be a lot better than I'm giving him credit.Comment

My call: The Pistons and the Raptors are going to be the two worst teams in the East. Cleveland can be frisky. The Sixers have some talent and Evan Turner looked pretty decent tonight. The Wizards will probably be pretty bad too.Comment

D-Wade shot more free throws than the entire Sixers team. Were these the same refs from the 2006 NBA finals?Comment
