Yeah, the Fieldhouse is a horrible place to watch hockey.

I think some of those sections that are black should be used. Like the four club sections furthest to the left, where your angles are less harsh (or not at all) relative to sections 3 and 18. They're as good or closer than their opposites 107 through 114.

The one Ice game I went to, I dug it. I didn't have a problem with the view. I think I was in section 114.

They used to be used. The Ice can't generate enough of a fanbase to utilize those extra seats. When they were the Indianapolis Ice they could. Now once or twice a season in both the Fieldhouse and the Pepsi Coliseum, they have a "Pack the House Night". I'm not sure how the turnout is on those, though.

Sure, Indy would support an NHL team great...if they were winning. If they were losing? No. We have a very fickle group of fans in the Indianapolis area.

..Of an NHL team? Not enough to sell an ownership group to consider moving into a flooded small market w/ two other major league teams to compete with for entertainment $$$. There is also the fact that the Fieldhouse wouldn't have enough high value seats to sell considering nearly 1/4th of the lower bowl couldn't be used. Then there are the Chicago and Columbus franchises that wouldn't just lay down and accept another team eating into potential customers.

The 1.5 million people of Central Indiana isn't enough to overcome some pretty serious hurdles. I just don't think Indy would have what it takes to host another major league team without hurting the fan base of the 2 established teams already or gain enough from the 2 established teams to make a worthy fan base required at that level.

That would be why I'd focus my efforts on a quality league such as the AHL. You have direct affiliation to the NHL, so there will be more talent within the league, unlike the USHL team Indy currently has. The fan base that it would take to make an AHL team viable is within reason for Central Indiana.

Hopefully this doesn't make them less popular with the casual and non-fans of the franchise for a short time. People will forget fairly soon, I hope.

I do, however, disagree that this would not be basically a check written to the Pacers / Herb by the taxpayers every year. Obviously the bottom line results of the franchise would be impacted by that amount of money each year for the remainder of the 20 year agreement, and taxpayers or users would pay the taxes to support the operation of the Fieldhouse where they did not have to before.

I have to imagine that this will impact some of the casual fans. You have an environment where people are losing their houses, do not have jobs, we are going to close a bunch of public libraries, IPS is in shambles, our public transportation is a joke, we are cutting funding all over the place, and yet we are going to subsidize a private company. I just cannot see how that will not affect the casual fans.

I am sure the average person who is not on top of this will forget just like a bunch of people forgot about the Hoosier Dome tax and the amazing deal we cut with the Colts.

I agree we need to keep the Pacers, but I hope Okeson negotiates better then the people who negotiated the deal for the Colts. If we are taking 15 million on per year the Pacers should not get to keep all the revenue from non-Pacers events. Some of that at the very least should be coming our way.

But I think they HAVE forgotten about the deal that was cut with the Colts, especially when they hold Irsay and the Colts up as a shining example of service to the city and throw the Simons under the bus.

People constantly have to be reminded that a huge chunk of the CIB loss is because of the money they are shelling out for the Colts deal. Naah, we like the Colts, that's OK.
