Let's talk about possible trades with Chicago

Uncle Buck mentioned in another thread that Chicago will be ready to make big changes if their losing streak continues.

What are some scenarios that you would consider?

Their biggest need--at least last year in the playoffs--was an inside scoring threat. Not only does JO help them, but I think Ike could also really help them in that area.

We need to get from them either Heinrich or Ben Gordon, IMO. What trades could work? What trades would you take? Would you take Ben Wallace's contract off their hands in a blockbuster trade including JO?

    Does JO for Wallace/Heinrich work?

How about Ike/Shawne for Ben Gordon?

Re: Let's talk about possible trades with Chicago

For the most part, when I post things on here I try to be analytical, and try to not get too emotional.....I try to look at things from a coach's perspective and not one of a passionate, loyal fan (of which I am one of those too).

Having said that, let me also say this:

PG Kirk Hinrich is one of absolute favorite players in the league, and if we got him somehow, as a coach Id be happy, but as a fan I'd be doing this:

I love, love ,love how Hinrich plays.

Often, I'll listen to ESPN 1000 out of Chicago on my way home from work, and therefore I hear alot of Bulls coverage. Lots of their fans on their call in shows, and many of their media types, do not like Hinrich and want an upgrade....they don't see him as a "true" point guard.

However, in Hinrich I see a point guard who can handle the ball and shoot it, and can score multiple ways....he can spot up, he can hit fre throws, he can curl off screens. That is a major reason to like him.

But he has 2 main attributes that make me covet him so:

    1. He pressures the ball defensively with maximum effort, understanding that point guard defense is the first critical step in playing solid as a team in the half court.

    2. He makes almost NO MISTAKES. Let me explain what I mean....I'm not saying he is a great player and consistently makes a bunch of highlight, outstanding plays....he doesn't. But what he doesn't do is make BAD plays. He almost always does or attempts to do the right thing, on both ends of the floor.

He plays hard, plays smart, and plays within the team concept. He hits open shots. He leads....he is a winner from an early age. He has been well coached all his life, especially by Roy Williams at Kansas and by Scott Skiles. He is tough minded, and a MAJOR upgrade for us defensively at the point guard spot (not that that is saying much.) Pair Hinrich with a defensive minded backcourt guy like on my other favorites Quinton Ross, and all of a sudden your backcourt defense is a major strength, not a weakness.

Did I mention that I love how Hinrich plays?

I doubt the Bulls will be a good fit for us in a 2 way deal, but we might be a good third team to be added to a potential deal with the Bulls and Grizzlies, or the Bulls and Lakers.

    Just my opinion of course.

      Egads no.

      And regular no.

EDIT: Not that I wouldn't like Heinrich, but I *REALLY* don't want Ben Wallace on this team. I'd hate to lose my ability to watch Pacer games without smashing the TV.

I wouldn't mind having ben Gordon, but not at the expense of JO or any of our youth. Maybe we could send them Troy somehow for ben Gordon.

I just checked with Real GM. It says trading emotionally weak players for physically weak players won't work. Too bad too. I think I might like Ike.

The problem with doing any deals with Chi Town is that if we do trade Jermaine, we would have to take a bunch of contracts because there is no way in heaven, hell, or North Dakota that we trade for (I don't know if I'm allowed to say such a fiendish name ) Ben Wallace .

Who are their higher contracts, Joe Smith or Nocioni? Most fans would probably want to go for draft picks anyway.

noccioni and heinrich have signed extensions but i'm fairly sure both are BYC which is a big problem meaning we'd have to do a 5-1 type deal (midseason???) or include wallace.

removing logic from the discussion i would say the top 3 targets for the pacers would be gordon, heinrich and noccioni (in that order). i think two of those three would thrive in the JO'B system (the last two) i think offensively gordon would too, defensively is what i worry about.

You can have a draft pick but you can't have Joe Smith. He's the only one who plays with his head out of his .

Hey, I like Ben Wallace. Why not?

I just did trade checker for JO/Tins for Wallace/Heinrich.

                    And it works.

Have you seen the "production" of Big Ben? There is none. He can't rebound or block this year. And that is how he got his fat deal.

                        Okay.

But is this team better with Heinrich at the point, Ike at the 4, and Big Ben subbing in now and then and providing the muscle and intimidation we've lacked for so long?

Maybe he's faded some. But a faded Dale Davis sure helped us a bunch a couple years ago.

                        I'd do the trade.

I love Hinrich as much as Tbird does, but I really don't want Ben Wallace. He's right up there with Adonal Foyle for worst contracts in the NBA. Wallace's contract makes Murphy's look like a steal.

There is some sort of PJ Brown magic that would have to be done to make a Kobe to the Bulls deal work. We could do the same sort of magic to make a JO deal work. I think it involves some sort of sign & trade with Brown where he gets a one year deal for $10 or so million dollars.

If that could work out, I'd love to do a JO + filler for Hinrich, Brown + filler.
