Zeller missed an obvious and simple switch but giving him that opportunity is just bad coaching.
Our zone actually hasn't been all that bad since Wisconsin, we are using it less, but more effectively. So yeah, I have no idea why we weren't. Putting us in zone pretty much forces Illinois to chuck up a 3 and it also enhances the chances of Oladipo or Zeller being able to use their length to make a play on the ball and just blow up the whole damn thing. It is why this loss will stick in my craw for a while, maybe the rest of the season if we don't beat OSU on Sunday, it was very easily avoided on both our last offensive and defensive possession.

Talking with Mark Titus (clubtrillion) about this on twitter right now, he agrees with pretty much everything we are saying.

Oh and I know this doesn't excuse or colossal choke job, but the regulation game should have been over on Oladipo's block. Illinois stopped the clock before the ball hit the ground.

I noticed that last night. Didn't think it was worth mentioning. We blew the game. It happens. Usually I am going insane over stuff like this, but I'm pretty blase about this one. We needed that.

Normally after a loss like this I would be expecting to you to be raining fire and brimstone about the ****** play of IU down the stretch and the terrible mistakes at the end, but you are not. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU

I don't trust this team when they are playing good teams away from Assembly Hall. We have four road games left (OSU, MSU, Minn, UM). We need to pick up a couple of big road wins against those teams, which will obviously be a difficult task.

Because it was a horrible, stupid loss to a clearly inferior team. I never once thought we were going to lose that game until we actually lost it. Illinois is not a good team. They can beat anyone when they hit those contested jumpers (like Richardson and Paul started hitting late in the game), and that combined with our team's attitude (which was much like mine, you could tell)...just not bothered by it. I think it will teach them a lesson they desperately needed to learn. If they would have squeaked this one out like they have been in their other second half collapses, they could rest on their laurels that they won the game and that's all that counts. They lost to a team they know they are better than, and they are getting **** on for it. I don't suspect we will see them sleeping on anyone else this season. They will be more focused when they need to be.

Does it suck that it makes the Big Ten harder to win? Yes. Does it suck that it could impact our tournament seeding? Yes. Do I think our chances to win the Big Ten are doomed? Not at all. Do I think we played ourselves out of a 1 seed? Not at all. Plenty of games against solid teams to get back up there.

Stop being so rational. Come overreact with me.

Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

This is what people said about the Butler loss too. I don't think this team has the intangibles to suddenly assume a humble attitude the way a fan does after a loss.

Maybe not, but that's how I am rationalizing it. My furniture thanks me.

We have a few big road games coming up. Win a couple of those and the pain of this loss goes away.

I can't find a replay that shows the clock, to confirm this...

                              edit...

here it is. Block was at 2.0 seconds, ball goes out of view at 1.1, and it looks like 0.9 was accurate:

Michigan goes down, IU back on top of the B1G. At least until the MSU/PU game, anyway.
