Plenty tired this evening... Didn't get as much sleep before leaving for the track as planned. Beat the crowd on the in... but the out was a different story. Even though we waited longer than normal before leaving the track, and have a decent hike back to the car, the traffic was as thick as I've ever seen it at that point.
So, I dozed off a few times trying to watch the replay...
I noticed with the red flag stuff, the TV production was more lost on what was happening than the IMS PA or the teams. That's kind of odd since they all have access to the same sources of info and are listening to the same radio material. For whatever reason that info didn't seem to always be fed to the booth in a timely manner.

New audio and video upgrades at the track were appreciated.

Did I manage to miss it, or was Steve Letarte NOT part of the race broadcast??? Was Carb day the end of his role? Was he on any pre-race stuff? He was NOT missed... Unlike Dale Jr who is a Nascar guy and understands what he knows about Nascar doesn't necessarily translate to Indycar. He seems to talk about it with wonderment and amazement and just ask questions and talk about things he sees that are different. Letate seems to be the opposite... and thinks he's knowledgeable about Indycar and then tends be the guy who doesn't know what he doesn't know.

IMS dodged a bullet with that loose wheel. I'm not sure what they can do about it... Study what failed to cause it to break loose I suppose would be first and foremost. Obviously tethers can only do so much. Although if it was a tether failure, that needs addressed. Didn't Daly punt Rahal's wheel into the infield just a couple of years ago? Not that a tether would've helped there at all. But if a team knows they didn't get a wheel nut on properly, I'm not sure why they don't just order the driver to stop rather than letting them go back to speed.

On next to last restart, which was the Carpenter et al wreck, couldn't IMS have thrown the red quicker and so taken the argument off the table about needing an extra lap to go green instead on the first lap out of the pits? I kinda list track of laps and didn't think to doublecheck that on the replay.
In any case, finishing under green, without adding extra laps should always be the goal.

Is IMS going to take a stand on "the snake" on the front stretch dropping down into pitlane? I can remember when we NEVER saw the snake on the front stretch, and now... we always get it but I kind of worry they're taking it too far dropping into the pit lane entrance. I know IMS painted a line this year, but no rules to go with that line. It does make me wonder if they're thinking about this.

Newgarden's celebration was perfect. Full of energy and different.

Ferrucci sure seemed like he thought he had the car to beat. I listened to his radio quite a bit. It was pretty entertaining. He also thought he should've had the lead on that one late yellow... and then when he found out they were going red, he was happy to be second after all. And then when he learned they were putting Newgarden in 2nd instead of him he said.... "That some bulllllllllsh........"
But I think his opinion was skewed from the yellow call in his radio, versus the yellow on the track.

Apparently the new aero bits, as Pato opined during practice, did NOT help trailing cars beyond 2nd place to suck up in the pack.

Overall it was a fun race.

Nuntius was right for a while. I was wrong for a while. But ultimately I was right and Frank Vogel has been let go.

Letarte was on the broadcast, but his air time was very very limited.Pretty sure Danica and Turrico got more airtime just from NBC showing their reaction to 3 wide and 4 wide racing on the first restart.

Right after I posted that I sat down with a snack and saw Peacock had a replay of their early morning pre-race show. So I turned it on... and there he was LOL..

I don't mind him, though he's pretty needless, if it's just random color for the broadcast (I mean... how many people do you need to say "Wow, look at how fast they are turning into these corners!"). But him getting into technicalities of Indycar racing is a bridge too far. I think it's worse because he doesn't seem to know what he doesn't know and so doesn't try to educate himself.

If this link works... Here are some of the photos I captured Sunday at the track:

Definitely seemed like the biggest crowd in years. I sat at the top of the straightaway right out of Turn 4, which offered a view of the entire north end. The north end and Turn 3 all seemed pretty full. These are the areas where’d you see noticeable vacant patches in those years where attendance was down.

But how could anyone go to that and not want to come back? There’s no event that is better to witness live.

I suppose if you were in the grandstands and saw a tire flying over your head you might have some reservations

RHR is replacing Daly at ECR for the rest of the season. Lackluster overall results, and probably a strong opinion that Rinus is ahead of Daly in talent likely means they wanted some veteran input in the car (and team). RHR brings that.

In other news, Jenna Fryer has this Tweet:
"Word on the street is Rahal Letterman Lanigan has fired a few engineers and Graham’s crew chief."

                    No ****, Jenna.

Still amazed she didn't get her press credentials pulled after she tried to throw Malukas under the bus with a ******** story last year.

I've been thinking this for a while... Ganassi's and Palou's interactions do not look like 2 guys who are being business-like and cordial to run out the string. I have a feeling either Ganassi knows Palou is staying or else he thinks he has a real shot at it.

I'm going to assume one aspect of the contract drama and the settlement wasn't that McLaren's contract was delayed, but that it was simply voided BUT Ganassi agreed to let Palou test F1.

I could be wrong, but I assume Ganassi was being cheap and didn't expect the contract kerfuffle to arise that would keep him from having this extra option year of Palou on the cheap, and THEN have to make decisions and pony up to keep him. So my speculation is that is exactly the situation he still has. He ultimately was right.

But how on earth could Ganassi let him go?
