    New Laptop

So I have been using the same laptop for about the past six years and the thing is on its last legs.

The thing is I do not need some super powered laptop that can run all the newest computer games. I really just need a laptop that can run Office, Chrome, and iTunes and connect a couple of external hard drives that I keep music and pictures on.

I really do not want to spend much more than $500 because i really would only use it occasionally to do some Word document or update iTunes from time to time.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm considering getting a laptop by the end of year, so I'm curious to hear from people, too.

Unless you're into hardcore gaming or other really intense programs, the cheapest thing on the market that grabs your attention will be more than enough. I've made the same suggestion to quite a few people over the years and nobody has complained yet.

Six years is great for a laptop the longest for me has been 4 years.

Best Buy used to have good deals on laptops you could get for around $250 and I got a Compaq(well HP now) they lasted a good while.

However these days in the paper I notice that Office Depot tends to have far better deals.

Get one of them tablet/laptop hybrids. People will hold you in a lesser level of disdain than Apple users.

It has been a trooper over these years. I love the Dell Inspirion line, but I think it might be over kill for me. My wife's has only lasted three years and I am almost ready to upgrade that one too.

The hybrids intrigue me, but I do not think the Windows 8 app market is mature enough to really give up an iPad. I think eventually Windows will catch up and have a ton of apps, but right now it does lag behind. I did see my favorite app, Evernote, is on Windows 8.

I just worry with those hybrids that it because it is a hybrid it lags a bit on being a laptop and being a tablet and neither experience will live up to what you really want.

I use only laptops. They are furnished by my employer. I had an IBM / Lenovo T61 that lasted for years, running XP pro. Loved it.

It has been replaced by Dells, running Win7. I say Dells plural, because 2 boat anchored within weeks. (To be fair, these were used laptops from our inventory.) On my third Dell now...Vostro 1520. It's OK. It's Win7 that bugs me.

Best things to shop for, IMO...adequate ports / connectors / external storage capability. ..lots of USB, bluetooth, a serial port or two, SD chip space, etc. Also which OS are you partial to? After those two areas, I'd just bargain hunt.

I hate laptops. Love my ipad. My desktop was built by me a couple of years ago...just need to install the SSD that I bought a month ago.

Try to win a laptop, lot's of contests out there. That's my only advice.
First time in a long time, I've been happy with the team that was constructed, and now they struggle. I blame the coach.
