Re: What movie did you last watch?
Citizenfour - So, this is a tough one because, while I was captivated throughout most of it, it's not a particularly good documentary. It seems to both assume that you know everything that is going on in terms of the issues, but also wants you to find it super thrilling and open-ended. Though I appreciated the non-director interviews and the backpacker filmmaking style, I knew what was going to happen and did not find the slower, more contemplative parts worthwhile. There's not much suspense when Snowden looks out the window in a paranoid manner in Hong Kong because I know he makes it to Russia. Similarly, the movie falls on the wrong side of the line between Snowden watching cable news not knowing what's next and me watching cable news (ugh) knowing full well what's next. There's enough insider-y stuff in the film to make it worth watching, but it ultimately play more like a well-shot/edited travel log than a documentary putting a microscope to Snowden's actions and intentions. Mildly recommended, if the subject interests you.You Got The Tony!!!!!!Comment

Longmire: Seasons 1 & 2. Forget how I come across this. Probably something I stumbled across on youtube. I'm now looking to buy season 3. I liked it, I'll give it three stars out of four.
Newsroom: Season 3. I really liked this series. Liked the actors and story-lines. Sad season 3 was it's last. One of my favorites, 4 stars out of four.
Draft Day: I really enjoyed it, I like Costner as an actor. The movie is about the NFL draft.
[A bit of spoiler alert] Costner is the manager of the Cleveland Browns, and he has the 7th pick in the draft. He trades 3 future 1st round picks for the 1st pick and then uses the pick to get a guy he could have had at 7. I won't go on, but it's like he falls in an outhouse and comes up smelling like a rose. I've watched this movie 3 times now. Four stars out of four.
Exodus, Gods and Kings I bought this at Wal-mart, an impulse buy without checking any reviews. Bad, bad, mistake! This is a terrible movie, worse than Noah. Other than a general outline it doesn't follow the Bible's account at all.
• God is played by a bratty little child
• Moses is typically yelling at him
• “God” is made out to be an uncaring and petty killer of children (the firstborn sons)
• Pharoah is a reasonable guy
• Moses and God are the unreasonable deranged ones
• When Moses discovered—by accident—that he was a Hebrew, he kills two soldiers in self defense. He is then exiled when the tale reaches the ears of his “cousin” Rameses (never mind that Rameses could not have been Pharaoh during the Exodus, since his reign was close to 150 years after the children of Israel departed Egypt).
• A chain reaction of plagues occur: alligators go wild and eat people, causing their blood to turn the Nile red. The blood causes the frogs in the river to jump out into Egyptian homes. The dead frogs bring larvae that become gnats/flies. The bites from the gnats/flies causes boils on the skin and deadly infections on animals. Not ONCE does Moses appear before Pharaoh
• Moses relied on a sword from Pharaoh’s house and not a staff in the movie. None of the miracles of manna and quail were depicted. Moses never struck a rock for water. The biblical account of Moses and Aaron pleading with Pharaoh to let the people go is reduced to a few encounters that don’t follow the story line. Rather, plagues seem to arrive one after another, not to mention the crocodiles eating people, turning the water red… Pharaoh is depicted as a helpless father and not a stubborn leader and enslaver.
• The movie even includes explosions, something not invented at that time.

Re: What movie did you last watch?
Oh one more point about Exodus, Gods and Kings. Moses has an army made up out of the Israelite's he's trained. Thinking Pharaoh and his army are going to catch them, Moses leads his army to meet them. As both sides are advancing to meet the Red Sea starts returning. Pharaoh's men see it and turn around, so Moses sends his army back also. Then Moses and Pharaoh advance to meet, but before they can the towering Red Sea sweeps them away. Moses somehow swims ashore. Surprisingly Pharaoh makes it back to his side also, while wearing armor.Comment

I just laugh at the idea that any film is supposed to follow the Bible literally, as if the Bible is something to be followed literally or there aren't a million different versions and interpretations of versions of the Bible ... and that the thing isn't just a collection of fantastical stories told by men to install a certain moral code. Not trying to make this a religious debate. Just laugh at the idea of being too worried about "well, they got it all wrong, because clearly this storybook thing happened instead!"Comment

Directors who change little things out of books, for no other reason than for simple change, should be shot. They're not putting their individuality stamp on it. They're taking someone else's story and putting it into a different format, so keep the story how it was written. People bought the book written. They go to see the movie because they love the book.“Just because you're offended, doesn't mean you're right.” ― Ricky Gervais.Comment

Re: What movie did you last watch?
Yeah, so when an adaptation ends up being bad, the hierarchy of people to feel bad for might include some of fandom. But not the whiny, pedantic pricks who can identify differences between source and adaptation but can't synthesize them to understand why they exist. Those people want all of the ownership of the content without any of the responsibility or effort. Maybe at one point, they were the little guys, the woe-are-us geeks getting shoved into lockers. But that has flipped around.
For example, the Thrones book readers are the worst part about watching the show. And they are not a small contingent. They kind of represent the worst (non-criminal) part of the internet that manufactures fake outrage, complains using really shallow analysis, and plays the victim to seek attention on a topic that doesn't have a whole lot to do with them. There's more but that's enough for now. Two pennies. You Got The Tony!!!!!!Comment

Some people are bothered by this, regardless if it's the Bible or Cinderella. I'm one of them, even though I really don't care about either example.
