Glad everyone likes my attempt at a budget home theater. The pictures are from about a year and half ago and I'm contemplating tearing it down and doing it again now that we're empty nesters. Some of the home theaters out there are amazing and now that projectors have come down so much in price it can be actually cheaper than going the flat panel tv route.You know how hippos are made out to be sweet and silly, like big cows, but are actually extremely dangerous and can kill you with stunning brutality? I like how the HD DVD logo from the Toshiba shines in that third picture. It's taunting us.
Is that an off the shelf screen or a DIY project?Nuntius was right for a while. I was wrong for a while. But ultimately I was right and Frank Vogel has been let go.

I absolutely love the HD player and use it to upconvert movies rather than the blu-ray.
Yeah it's a DYI and pretty cheap at that. Two coats of Kilz, 2 coats of Sherwin Williams Grey Screen sanded down and 2 additional GS as top coats. Border was wood slats covered in black velvet to catch any light spillage. Was too scared at the time to invest in a really decent screen knowing I may change the layout sooner than later.
I've got plenty of room to do the traditional theater with risers if I switch the room the other way. However we've really enjoyed the roomy feel especially during these Indiana winters where you can go down there and kind of stretch instead of going to the mall or something. It would of course allow us to have more folks over for movie night, but the draw back is it would allow us to have more folks over.
