49ers fear ACL and MCL damage for Bowman
After Sunday night’s loss to the Seahawks, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said that the preliminary assessment of linebacker NaVorro Bowman’s knee injury revealed a suspected ACL injury.
Per a league source, the team fears both an ACL and MCL injury. An MRI, which has not yet been conducted, will reveal the full extent of the damage.
While mild to moderate MCL injuries can heal without surgery, an MCL injury could delay Bowman’s timetable for surgery, if the decision is made to allow the MCL to heal before repairing a possible torn ACL. Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski waited one month and one day to have ACL surgery because of an MCL injury that needed to heal.
With Bowman’s injury happening on January 19, time will be of the essence as the 49ers prepare for the 2014 season.
Bowman’s leg was trapped under Seahawks receiver Jermaine Kearse near the San Francisco goal line. Kearse fumbled, Bowman recovered — and Bowman held the ball until the hit the ground even after the injury occurred. A bad call by the officials and the inability by rule to review the play gave the ball back to Seattle, who emerged with it from the ensuing scrum.Comment

Re: Playoff Thread
I personally am not outraged over what Richard Sherman did I mean I had no horse(pardon the pun) in this race so that might factor into it.
I don't have an issue with people thinking Richard Sherman is a douche(although I find all this to be rather calculated on his part but I digress) but to say he's a thug or disparage him with racist remarks is absurd to me. And it says more about them than it does about him.Comment

He shouldn't shy away from it. It's nice to have a player with emotion in sports, and he's right about being the best. Targeted twice in that game, and one was an interception caused by him.Comment

Re: Playoff Thread
The Brady Patriots remind me a lot of the Jeter Yankees. The Jeter Yankees won 4 out of 5 championships at the beginning of his career, but then they went on a drought until 2009. They added a lot of flashy talent during that time period (A-Rod, Sheffield, Giambi, etc) and continued to win a ton of games, but they just couldn't win another ring until 09. The Brady Patriots are a perfect analogy. They won 3 out of 4 Super Bowls at the beginning of his career, but have come up short since then. They've added some flashy talent over the years (Moss, Welker, Gronk, etc) and have continued to win a ton of games, but they just haven't been able to get another ring.
I still think that Brady will play in one more Super Bowl.Comment

Re: Playoff Thread
that was pretty classless too, to be honest
We accepted it because he was ours and because it was part of the long-running ongoing give-and-take between Reggie and Spike Lee. He also kept his antics to an on-court-only self-motivational sideshow.
If Reggie had gone off in on-camera interviews to a reporter, like Sherman did to Erin Andrews (and even 15 minutes later in his media session), I tend to think that we'd all think a bit less of Reggie for it.The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). Re: Playoff Thread
8 conference championship games in 12 years is a pretty nice stretch. Imagine if IU basketball won the Big 10 championship 11 times in 12 years, while being tied for the best record the other time, and then made it to 8 final fours in that stretch of 12 years.
It would be just a step behind UCLA in the 1960s, even with only three banners hung. Duke once made 8 of 14 final fours, with 3 titles in that period (1987-2000).
We (IU) can't seem to make an elite 8 these days.
I know that there are 300 D1 basketball programs, but really only about 30-40 programs are legit title contenders even over decades of time.Last edited by Slick Pinkham; 01-20-2014, 07:31 PM.The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I heard someone try to compare him to Ali this AM on the radio, and all I could do was laugh.
Whatever, I cant wait to get back to watching football.Comment

Re: Playoff Thread
I know that plenty of recent teams have won Super Bowls after winning multiple road playoff games, but having home field advantage is always going to be the most desirable path. HFA needs to be our goal next year so that we don't have to travel to Foxboro or Denver. That certainly won't be easy given Brady and Manning's record of winning, but it needs to be the goal.Comment
