Re: Luck vs Griffin - let it begin.

Doesn't matter last year that we were 2-14. It *may* have been more like a 5-11 team, if you wanna make a case, but Manning himself was what made that team a contender. Take him off, and we were absolutely a 5-11... 4-12... 6-10 team --- TOPS.

But regardless, we kept hardly anyone from last year's team. We gutted it. So everyone saying that Luck inherited a team that was better than 2-14 --- that doesn't fly. Luck inherited a gutted team, with $40mill in cap being paid to players *not* on this team. It's a skeleton crew. It's a brand new system. Brand new coaching staff. Half of our starters are new, and replaced with rookies.

It was a massive change-over. I can say with some honesty that without Luck, this current version of the Colts more resembles a 2-14 team than last year's team. Replace Luck with Painter and we're absolutely going 0-16.

It's why I've been pushing him for ROY and to not even mention him in the MVP talk is wrong, too.

There are two types of quarterbacks in the league: Those whom over time, the league figures out ... and those who figure out the league.

I don't care how talented the rest of your team is because you simply cannot win games if Curtis Painter is taking snaps for you.

That being said, Grigson has added some pretty decent talent this year despite not having much flexibility. Hilton, Avery, Allen, Flener, Ballard, Redding, etc.

I agree with you though. The whole "2-14" thing gets a bit overblown at times, and I've certainly been guilty of doing so myself. That team wouldn't have been anywhere near 2-14 if they had a quarterback that actually deserved to be on an NFL roster. That's not to say it didn't have flaws because it clearly did as we saw in the later years of Manning. But it would have won 5 or 6 with an average NFL quarterback.
      This

anyone not named Curtis Painter wins at least 5 games last year for the squad IMO. Plus give the GM this year credit that Colts team has a lot more talent than it should with all the savvy moves he made. It's not everyday you get a player like Freeman off the street and getting Allen was a really good move aswell. Like I said Luck has been good for a rookie but that Colts team was much improved and Curtis Painter was the QB last year that really is enoght said on why the Colts went 2-14 and really should of went 0-16 with how bad Painter was.

Tim Hasslebach of ESPN today says he would give the ROY to Luck over Griffin and Wilson, just putting that out there....
        Why so SERIOUS

The colts were a classic 2 and 14. Bad leadersship from top to bottom imo. Bad coach bad backup plan with kerry collins. The injury bug hit hard and the team sort of gave up. This year we have something like 23 new players and the freaking leading tackler is from the arena league. Make no mistake it was a 2 and 14 team much like the chiefs are now.

If you put Luck on last year's team would it have gone 2-14? No way. It might have been a bit worse than this year because it was playing a first place schedule and because we have some solid players we added this year who have helped, but we still competed in several games last year despite our putrid quarterbacks. With this year's Luck on last year's team, it wins 6 or 7 at worst. Don't forget that Collie was healthy last year and we still had Garcon. Luck would have had plenty of people to throw the ball to.

Last year's team had many flaws and we also saw those flaws in Manning's final seasons. But the number 1, 2, and 3 reason we went 2-14 was because we rolled out 39 year old Collins, Curtis Painter, and Dan Orvlosky.

The coaching change has been huge though. A team takes on the personality of its coach and I'd much rather have my team in the mold of Pagano or Arians than Caldwell.

And it's nice not having Bill Polian's enormous shadow looming over the entire franchise.

Think he meant last year's team.

Well I think if you put a franchise QB on any team it doesn't go 2-14. Teams that go 2-14 don't have a franchise QB and they have major holes which describes the Colts 2011 season to a T.
