I do not like Lucas Oil stadium

This past Sunday was the first time I've been inside the place. And sure it is nice, new, huge, nice looking and it has some very nice parts to it. But as far as for watching a football game? I didn't like it

I sat in the lower bowl part, top row of that section, at about the 10 yard line. And I'll admit I watched probably 60%-65% of the action on the video screens as opposed to watching it on the field, mainly because I felt like I was so far away from the action I could see much better by watching the TV. (nice HD TV though) maybe there are much better seats, but for $119.00 per ticket, I thought the view from my seats was horrible.

Most staduims now are terrible to watch a game. They simply have to many suite boxes and unnecessary large floor plans. IMO college staduims are the best because they pack as many as they can in and limit the number of suites. Could you imagine lucas as the big house with 110,000 screaming fans?

But, if you were to compare sitting in the upper level cheap seats of Conseco with Lucas Oil you're better off at Lucas. At least with football you can see plays develope at that distance and with basketball you have to be closer to the action IMHO.

Like I said there are probably better seats than the ones I was sitting in. As I looked around I think maybe it was the 300 level looked liked probably the best seats - I tried to get up there to see if those were really good, but didn't have time.

I thought the best seats at the RCA dome were first row second level.

Well, I sit first row upper deck every (well most) game at Conseco, and I can see everything just fine from there.

The main thing I wanted to say, however, was that I think more arenas/stadiums should do what the Hawks did: Put all the luxury stuff (suites) on one side of the arena.

Then you can design the rest with the fans in mind. Good views, as close as possible, hopefully setup to allow more noise to be amplified when people cheer.

I thought they designed the lower seating area with the mindset of keeping the fans closer to the field.

I sat in 422 against the Pats, and I thought the view was a hell of a lot better than what it was at the Dome. We sat in similiar seats there against the Titans a few years ago, and I would take Lucas every time.

I thought the actual playing field/seats were done very well. My problem was with the concourse. WTF is up with only having all the escalators go one way? I'm fine with it if they would have put in stairs, but those ramps took forver long to get down, when you could actually find one.

In ALL stadiums if you sit low you won't be able to the other side of the field, that's not just LOS...

I agree, mix in some stairs at least. That is a bottle neck nightmare.

I sat in 605 during the Pats game and thought it was a very good seat considering it was at the very top in the corner. Its fun seeing plays develop from up high. I'd maybe rather sit there than the seat you describe, Buck.

Re: I do not like Lucas Oil stadium

I have a buddy with season tickets in the 3rd row from the field. The only thing I like about them is they're just a few feet from the cheerleaders. Oh, and Suzy Kolber was close enough a friend and I got up and yelled "Suzy I wanna kiss you" at the same time without ever discussing it. She gave us the nastiest glare I've ever seen a woman give any man.

Anyway, sitting down low at any football games is very unsatisfying to me. That's a sport where the cheap seats are the best for ... you know ... actually watching the game. Sounds to me like you like LOS, you just didn't like your seats. Very understandable.

For those who didn't get the "Suzy I wanna kiss you" thing, here's a video of what that's about, it's about 50 seconds in. Figured maybe someone never saw it.

I respectfully disagree. I will only sit in the lower bowl (though for the Monday night game this week I will be in the club level for the first time ever)

I will openly admit I have a nasty fear of heights and this plays a big part in this. The noosebleads at FedEx may be cheaper at 89 a ticket but I am sitting hear with sweaty palms just typing about the upper deck.

I went to my first game at Lucas Oil Stadium a few weeks ago when we beat the Titans. I set on the main walkway level, 15 rows up, end zone seats. I thought they were great and I still could not really see what was going on much farther than the 50 yard line. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the overall excitement of the place.

Lucas Oil is light years better than the Dome. I only went to about 3 or 4 games ever at the Dome, that place we horrible. I still prefer watching football firmly planted on my couch though. I watched the DVRed game as soon as I got home.

I'll go back to a few games a year though, Lucas Oil Stadium is an awesome place in IMO. I don't see how a place with a better viewing experience could be made.

Ah, I forgot 1 good thing about sitting low. Edgerrins rookie year, he was breaking out in the open in a preseason game. He was directly in front of me and someone pinned him near the sideline. He stopped and stutter stepped ... mistake. Sam "300 lbs" Adams jumped on his back, Edge had no idea he was there. The look on his face was hilarious, and I can still see it today.

It's just that low you can't see much. It just looks like a mess of people with no direction when you're that low. The only time I could make heads or tails of it is when a receiver went deep. They were far enough from the group of people you could spot any separation between them or tell what was going on. Just not my cup of tea. Saves me money anyway. WooT!

I've been to a few football games (mostly at IU and 2 at RCA) and it's just not quite the same as watching it on tv. It's fun but you can't watch little battles between players and it's harder to tell yard lines in person. Basketball you can watch the whole game pretty easy regardless of seats even if you can't make out names or numbers.
