Pacers react to being called "wussies" by Charles Barkley

On Sunday night, TNT Analyst and NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley put the Pacers on blast for a poor performance in Game 1 against the Hawks.

“To come out and play like wussies the last month of the season, then get a fresh start and come out at home last night…I was disappointed…. To come out and play like that…c’mon man, ya’ll better than that. They’re embarrassing Coach Vogel and the great Larry Bird. Shout out to the Atlanta Hawks for coming to play!,” said Barkley.

At practice on Tuesday, Head Coach Frank Vogel declined comment, but several starting players reacted.

“That’s Charles being Charles. I didn’t take no offense to it. We know what we got to do,” said forward Paul George.

“I respect what he has to say, he’s a very nice guy,” said center Roy Hibbert.

“I don’t really read nothing or look at media. I just watch film with Coach and that’s it. I don’t really get into it,” said guard Lance Stephenson.

The Pacers have a chance to prove Barkley wrong in Game 2 against the Hawks on Tuesday. Tip off set for 7 p.m. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

"We've got to be very clear about this. We don't want our players hanging around with murderers," said Larry Bird, Pacers president.

Funny how they left out mentioning PG saying that Charles has never been on their side.... Showing that PG has apparently not been listening to Barkley for 3 years now...

I ****ing hate the fact that all the players brush it off, even agreeing with him to an extent. Show some heart! Please! Act like you care!

And say he's wrong? Then you'd be screaming that they had no idea how bad they were.

I'd rather the "we know what we have to do" response.

Why does it matter what Charles Barkley calls them? Is he the only guy on earth calling them soft? Is Bird not calling them something similar behind closed doors?

I'm not sure that how the Pacers are playing should be considered soft. Heck, I'm not sure what it is, except ugly. Turning on a Pacers game, when you remember how they were playing in December, is like thinking you're about to view a Monet or Rembrandt art exhibit and instead you find yourself staring at feces smeared on the wall from a 6-month old.

I just want to see them play like they care about salvaging their season. I have invested so much time, money, and emotion in just this season alone because I thought it would be special and I'm not sure we would ever have this much talent ever again. The funny part is that the talent wasn't what I really loved about them, it was how they played together. They truly represented Hoosier spirit and we all could relate to how they approached the game. I want that team back. If they were getting overmatched by a talent standpoint I could stand behind them. What I can't support is the apathetic lack of effort and interest in a playoff game. They have gone soft and are (p)wussies. Things aren't easy anymore so they've given up. Tonight will tell us everything we need to know about this team. It's not too late, but if they don't deliver at home tonight it's over. These guys may never be on a roster this talented again and nothing in the NBA is given. I don't care what their personal issues are, they need to embrace the opportunity in front of them.

Until they prove otherwise, Barkley's quote was spot on, maybe a little too nice.

This is where I'm at. I completely understand saying media friendly responses, but give us something that implies that you're genuinely pissed at the comments thrown your way.

Who's angry enough give us a Richard Sherman type response and stand behind it like a Man?

Remember when we could have gotten 1-2 solid players and a possible Top 3 draft pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by trading away Paul George?

Exactly. They need to act like they care...They still have the same laid-back attitude and it might lead to another loss at home tonight..

Yep, these guys are in a lose/lose situation. If they came out defensive like the poster suggested the media and fans would blast them for that because they are not focusing on the game and reacting to the media.

I am fine with how they reacted and they just need to do their talking with their play on the court not what they say when the mic is in their face.

                        Don't tell me, show me.

If they don't like what Charles had to say they just need to not play like wussies. Verbal responses don't mean diddly.

I kind of wonder if it was a joke based on this other part of the quote.

If we lose tonight, Bird is going to chain the doors to the locker room and burn the arena down.
