    Re: Pacers/Magic Postgame Thread 10/29/13

I'm just going to echo what has been said plenty of times already. I was not a fan of how the crowd reacted to Oladipo. He had the loudest ovation the entire night. Louder than Paul, louder than Roy, louder than when they honored Larry Bird! Seriously...I like Victor, but to give him a better ovation than our guys and the greatest Hoosier basketball player of all time is just ridiculous.

It was just really disappointing to see that reaction from the crowd. I like Victor and I cheered a bit when he came into the game, but I gave him nothing else the rest of the game. When PG blocked Victor on a dunk attempt, it really seemed like the reaction was a mix of "what an awesome play" and "shut the hell up and support the Pacers." The reaction seemed like it was somewhat directed at the IU fans in the crowd.

Matt Painter needs to burn the shirt he was wearing. That's all.

If he accepts his role and the salary that goes with it - this doesn't have to be the case. Not saying that's what is going to happen, but it's what should happen.

Chances are that our whole budget in the next off-season will be spent on Lance.

Granted this is a 20ish win Magic team, but it's going to be a year where many times we'll be able to coast for 3 quarters and then just out talent people late in games. That is a good feeling.

CJ Watson is a massive upgrade on Augustin by just watching him on defense. He may be beaten by his player but he won't get burnt. He is far from a black hole DJ was. He will jam his opponent for starters. Shooting wise he didn't have the greatest of his nights but it's OK. It's not like we are solely dependent on him for that.

Scola scored all of his points I think with that mid range shot. That's cool and a nice weapon for a big guy to have but I would love if the coaching staff designed some plays for him close to the basket and with his back to it. Scola's got good moves and even though he's kinda old now, he could still score some there. Especially against second string bigs.

I would hardly say George Hill was fantastic. Only 1 TO but zero assists in 29 minutes for our starting point guard ???

Apologize if this has been posted somewhere.

                        No 'no more layups'

There’s a framed photo inside Frank

Vogel’s office. In it, former Pacer Jeff Foster — “one of the original smash-mouth founders,” Vogel says with reverence — is defending the paint by corralling an opponent around the neck. Essentially, Foster threw a horse collar, a move that would be cost him a 15-yard penalty in the NFL. But it was this mindset that Vogel had instilled in his team since he took over as head coach.

                        No layups.

This season, however, the Pacers have evolved.

“It’s funny, we’ve actually shifted our whole philosophy. We’re not a ‘no layups’ team anymore. We’re an NBA math team and we believe in keeping teams off the free throw line and playing with our length.”

Through the opening quarter against the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night, the Pacers blocked three shots and stung their overmatched opponent to 37.5 percent shooting. And the Pacers did this without hacking or horse-collaring — the Magic did not attempt a two-shot foul until the 10:42 mark of the second quarter.

“Doing it without fouling is important as anything we do now,” Vogel said. “We’re trying to be efficient defensively.”

You think so? I'll take the over. They won't be great... heck, they won't even be good. But they've got some firepower, and I can see them winning more than 20 games.

TURNING POINT: George ended the third quarter with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer that gave the Pacers some breathing room with a 69-64 lead and the reserves took it from there, as Luis Scola, Orlando Johnson andIan Mahinmi combined for the next 11 points in a 15-1 run that pushed Indiana's lead to 80-65 with 8:42 remaining.

Man I can get use to our bench leading a run away victory.

Eh. He was moving the ball, but we've got Paul George actually initiating a lot of the sets.

With Paul and Lance on the wings, and with great-passing bigs like Roy and West, I expect George Hill to have low assist numbers. All 5 guys in the starting unit are passers.
