CJ Watson opted out of his contract with the Nets.

Is it just me, or this seem like an obvious match between him and the Pacers? He won't command a high cost, solid backup PG, 3 point range, and I believe at least average positional defense. He was on the Bulls behind Derrick Rose when they were considered to have one of the best benches in the league, so he's not garbage.

We should make a strong push to get him. He is under-rated IMO and a legitimate starting calibre guard.

I think he fits better than DJ, and I was stoked about DJ because I thought he would fit. It's too bad he never brought his A game to Indy.

DJ has never played on a good team until now. He's actually a solid backup on most teams IMO.

Our options should be Jack, Harris then Watson

I'd be down with signing Devin Harris. I've always liked his game. I'd still take Watson barring money consideration.

If it becomes clear that we can't afford a guy like Jack or Harris then I'll gladly take Watson.

Watson would be a definite upgrade. He had some pretty good moments in Chicago.

If we could get Watson and Korver/Reddick that would be a home run off season.(along with re-signing West of course).

No doubt. I feel like JJ may be a dream at this point due to $, but I could see us landing Korver if that's who we want.

                    Hill/Watson
                    George/Stephenson
                    Granger/Korver
                    West/TBD
                    Hibbert/Mahinmi

                    or

                    Hill/Watson
                    Stephenson/Korver
                    George/Granger
                    West/TBD
                    Hibbert/Mahinmi

Either way, if healthy, I like that bench a lot better, even if the new backup 4 is no better than Tyler.

A group like that, plus fortunate health, plus self-improvement from a couple of our younger guys (mainly Paul and Lance, possibly Roy), and we have a legitimate chance to win it all.

If Granger comes back healthy and we acquired a couple pieces like this, look out. I agree with you. I thought Korver and Watson both played great in Chicago.

                        I'd love to have Watson.

Only concern is I don't think he solves our problem of handling the Heats pressure defense

Do you think we start getting guys on discounts for being a contender yet?

Considering the cost of all 3, and the fact that the talent between the 3 is quite comparable, I actually think Watson fits the pacers Moreso than Harris or Jack. Those two guys play at their next when they can play within a wider open, faster paced type of tempo that the Pacers do not play. When forced to play more of a half court type of game (see TOR and part of NO for Jack, and UTAH for Harris) they aren't nearly as effective.

Meanwhile for probably half the cost, Watson has played on teams that play a slower tempo, and has focused on defense. He's killed the pacers more than enough times, but he has shown the ability to play well in big moments and big games. If I'm the pacers, I look to bring him in for a little over a million and utilize any other available cap room for other additions to the roster.

If you've watched the finals you'll see that nobody can really fully handle the heat's pressure defense when cranked up all the way.
