Unless they're allowing the entire league to do it, then it's a superstar call.

I'm not saying every call a superstar player is a bad call, I'm saying that superstars get bailed out with horrible calls multiple times a game. When it's the same pattern game after game, season after season, you can't try and say that it's just coincidence. Obviously you can, but that's extremely unlikely.

Do you think LeBron, or any other superstar, gets an elevated level of doubt?

I believe that the league caters to their stars, they get preferential treatment from the refs, and the league caters to the big market teams. That does not mean that the small market teams can't compete, but it is harder.

Not what I mean. Like a Wade or Crawford pump fake drawing contact, or Tyler driving into someone's chest and going up wildly, or a Chris Paul carry.

There is an element of smoothness or repetition that allows certain players to have a knack for getting calls. Most of the time they are all stars.

If the Mavs-Heat series where Wade gets to the line 9 billion times is not proof then I don't know what is? Kyrie Irving will leave Cleveland. Kobe will be moved to a big market team for his last chance at the 6th ring. Flagrants will be called subjectively in the playoffs. Suspensions will be replaced with fines. And the league will value $$$ over the integrity of the game. Happened at the Masters. Happened with steroids and baseball. Happens in the BCS. And it is soooooo much more visible in the NBA. It is an Entertainment Business first, and a sport second.

Officials watch tape. Because a travel looks smooth, doesn't make it any less of a travel. The fact that they're allowed to do things, because they look smooth or because they have a popular last name, doesn't change the fact that the they're playing by a different set of rules. That would be rigging the game, in favor of superstars. It gives them an advantage.

Kyrie can't leave Cleveland for 7 years minimum if the Cavs want to keep him. 2 more years on his rookie deal, than a 5 year max contract.
There is no NBA player named Monte Ellis.

That's the question here. They've got to be doing something to earn that label, as he's arguing that something doesn't happen.
No. He's arguing that it doesn't happen AN OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF THE TIME.

If there have been a few bad refs out of the few hundred refs since the league was founded, and if they made EVERY SINGLE call deliberately badly, there STILL would be an extremely low probability that any given call was a bad call ON PURPOSE.

Even at that, it is still different from the proposition that the league instructs refs to make calls badly on purpose.

What advantage? Every player has the opportunity to achieve a skill set that allows them to come out on top with questionable calls. How many fans complain about Tyler getting away with calls? It's not a rigging, it's human error.

I have to say that this is something that at least would be calmed down if there was a public referee rating by the NBA after every game. I really don't understand how it helps the league for evaluations of such important personnel to be private.

Unless he signs for less years and less money after his rookie deal. He doesn't have to take the max contract.

So 4 years whatever. Still has to be in Cleveland for a long time.

At this point I think it's the job of the officials to know what these "moves" are. Especially Paul's carry. I hate dribbling violations. I'm glad traveling is no longer the "lost call" of the game, but one of the things that bugs me is the sneaky way guys trap it against their hip.

That just happens to repeat itself play after play, game after game? After a while a set pattern emerges. I find it hard to believe that the same calls get missed/called repeatedly, when officials review their calls and get graded by those calls.

If you kept making the same mistake at work, over and over again, and your supervisor supposedly reviewed every day of your work, don't you think they might say something to you about it so you can start correcting it?

He's saying 99.9% of the time. That's about as close to 100% as you can get. (I know how decimals work, I'm sure you get the point)

I don't think a majority of calls are bad calls, but trying to place it in the 99.9percentile is a, well, stretch.
