Pacers eventually to end up in Sacramento?

I know this topic has been covered before, but tonight i was listening to the post game radio show and it was the first time I've heard actual comments from folks with in the Pacer organization about the lack of attendance. Even questioning whether this is valid NBA market when cities like Sacramento, Pittsburgh, and Kansas city looking for an NBA team. White, Boyle, and Monteith all chided the fan base and eluded to the real possibility that this team was going to receive offers from those cities. All basically said to the fan base "What more could you want in a professional basketball team?" Also mentioning the dilemma of not getting more than 11-12K for mid-week games.

I'm wondering if this is a warning sent from the ownership and front office? Seems strange to talk a about such a topic at such length when your team just beat an elite conference rival.

Why would Sacramento ever get another team?

          They've had the attendance before.
"We've got to be very clear about this. We don't want our players hanging around with murderers," said Larry Bird, Pacers president.

because its a great NBA town. because the fans and city are doing everything possible to keep the Kings. because the Maloofs are doing their best job in screwing the city over.

They are right. Indianapolis does not deserve an NBA team. The hardcore fanbase does, but sadly the city itself does not. What more can the city and ownership give us as fans? Best arena... Quality product... Ticket discounts out the wazzoo... a dedication to providing a team that has a great work ethic and character...

If the NBA was played once a week I believe people would pack the house, but there just isn't enough interest and passion for it anymore. Maybe that can change if the Pacers win a ring this year? I don't know though...

It's not a Pacer problem. It's an NBA problem. I don't think people are that sold on Pacer's chances to ever really win it all in the NBA.... Not to mention a lot of people in Indiana can't even watch the Pacers. When they weren't on national tv for 5 or 6 years, people in Indiana north of Kokomo weren't able to see them. Consequently, they were out of sight, out of mind. During the Reggie Miller years, the entire state embraced the Pacers because they were visible. It helped that the Pacers have been on TV in Fort Wayne the last 2 or 3 years, but they aren't really that recognized throughout the state.
"We've got to be very clear about this. We don't want our players hanging around with murderers," said Larry Bird, Pacers president.

None of that really matters though. All you need is a dedicated owner and a lot of money to get a team. Sacramento will lose the Kings and that will be it, like when St. Petersburg loses the Rays or when Atlanta lost the Thrashers. Sacramento and Pittsburgh both will not get NBA franchises because Pittsburgh would be way too saturated and Sacramento isn't important enough and doesn't have the ownership to acquire one.

What do people expect IU and Butler are ranked in the top 10. We need playoff runs to help offset the low revenue during cbb season

They chose to talk about this tonight? On a night with a sell out.

We're avg. 14,518 per game this season, I don't know previous seasons but my guess is that is much higher than it was. We've all been there and this really seems like a lot better crowds this year than in previous seasons.

I mean are they talking about the Detroit game on Wednesday? Honestly in Indiana its hard to get people to come out mid week for much of anything but (no offense to our resident Piston fans) the Pistons are no longer an attraction or a draw. There are just teams that people will come out for and there are teams they won't.

I don't see us as really any different than any other market of our size. You win, they come. You don't win some won't come.

We are winning so more people are coming out. We are never going to be a team that sells out every game, the only time we did that was the fieldhouses first season and that was it.

just looked, this is the highest average attendance for the Pacers since 2007.

I talk about the Pacers every time I get a chance with clients, co-workers, friends, ect. I am starting to see more positive feed back this last year, since the playoffs. Attendance is a lot better then last and it should get better as the Pacers get better. I still hear one negative more then anything else on the negative side which is Pacers can't beat the elites, never have, never will. NBA don't want small markets.

I can't argue that view point cause I actually feel that way my self, except I have that sliver of hope that the vast majority don't have.

I would love to go to a game, but living an hour away with no traffic slow downs makes it impossible to go to a week day game. The only games that would be possible would be Saturday or a Sunday afternoon and so far my schedule and the lack of the Pacers game on those 2 days haven't worked out yet.

So, did tonight game not sell out? I would think it would have.

On a plus side, I don't hear the negative chatter of the brawl/thugs anymore. That is a huge step forward.
Garbage players get 1st round picks, (WTF)! All of the NBA must hate the Pacers! LOL

So very true!!! My son who is 28 came to my house last night to watch the game. This is a young man who Mrs. RWB and I raised to be a fan of basketball (started in a biddy ball league at the age of four and played all the way through high school ball) who had the Pacers ingrained into his head. Loves and played the game himself but rarely comes over for a Pacers game but during Colts football season he brings his wife in Colts garb all the time to watch.

Here's the punch line.... after seeing some of the star treatment Lebron was getting he says "See that dad, that's why I almost never watch the NBA". It really hit me like a ton of bricks... Is it possible too many folks here in Indiana know the game too well? I'm not talking NBA basketball but basketball in general. Are there too many folks who've either played or watched enough in their lifetime to know the NBA is not pure so to speak? I'm sad to say maybe this is a possibility at least in this state.

On a side note someone mentioned Kansas City as a city that will get the Pacers. Doubt it considering KC actually had the Kings (Kansas City Kings) before they moved to Sacramento.

Side note #2: I live near Terre Haute, not one billboard, not anything around here to promote the Pacers. MAybe if someone in the Pacers organization would promote outside Indy that would help. Would be interesting to see how many folks in here who attend games actually live in Indy/Indy metro.
