    Fan Jam 2012

Wasn't sure if this deserved its own thread, but wanted to discuss the Fan Jam. I thought it seemed like the crowd was bigger than usual, but can't be sure. Here are my thoughts...

    - was a bit disturbed at David West's language. This year the front row was reserved for "Kid VIPs," one of which was my 5 year old son. Selection to sit there was random, btw. He dropped 2 f-bombs and told Coach Burke (who was a ref for the scrimmage) "that was a p***** call!"

    - impressed by Miles Plumlee. Nice block on Hibs. Nice dunk. Funny and likeable.

    - Sam Young made a lot of effort to be nice during autographs. Paul George also was cool. Tyler seemed pissed at the world, but I think that's just him.

    - the Fieldhouse needs drink carriers (spilled Coke on my shirt)!

    - incredibly fun...my son loved it. The singing, dancing, dunking, etc was a nice way to make new fans. We've been the last few years as a fam (and I've been every year that I can remember), but this seemed ldifferent this year...not sure why.

don't you remember, David West doesn't care about kids /green

Glad to hear about Miles. Hope he gets his minutes.

That was the first thing I thought of. I think he just gets tunnel vision when it comes to basketball and/or he's concerned about germs. I just watched the Fan Jam videos on the Pacers' site and he did the same thing to the line of kids on both sides when the players came out.

In all seriousness though, it is kind of a bummer for the kids.

Haha...I think he's just all-intense all the time. Still rubbed me the wrong way...the PR peepe made such an effort to get kids involved, but he must not've gotten the memo. Ah well...won't change my mind about him. Still got mad respect for his on the court skills.

For the rest of you that wasn't there, granger didn't play during the scrimmage, but did participate in the 3-point contest. George Hill won that.

Lance was the only one to hit a half court shot, winning that.

Miles Plumlee brought out a unicycle for his dance competition and won that competition.

Ben had to sing Justin Beiber, and had to serenade a tiny little girl, who booed him

It was nice to see Mark and Slick again. They really are a special duo.

Rik Smits laughed when I told my son he was bigger than Hibs.

Tyler just isn't an outgoing personality, and you see it a lot in these Fanjam stuff. You get into smaller settings and he is much more personible, IMO.

I don't mind West's intensity, but I don't really see what there was to be intense about tonight. This was more a "just for fun" event than anything. Save it for the season.

I wanted to go, but they've got to learn to not schedule that stuff during the Colts game. Or to televise the the Colts game on the screen for people to come extra early. They do that, and I'll be there.

David West was as much of a douchebag as I thought

Roy Hibbert is wayyyyy cooler than I thought (which was pretty cool to start with!)

Great time all in all, got 8 autographs on my signed DG33 jersey, and got 6 tickets from free throws.

                I love FanJam!

In the few short times I've been around him with NO and Indy, he was at least cordial. Some of you guys think if someone won't sign 3 autographs or more he's being a jerk.

He's trying to keep from getting all his "BAMF" on them in order to keep them on the path of innocence as long as possible. If he gives one of those kids a high 5 at a point in life when they aren't mature enough to handle it, they might just turn that BAMF into a life of bullying or bank robberies. Heck, they might just take over an entire South American country in a bloody coup by age 14.

No, best to let him walk on by and let him be. Kinda like Bill Bixby as Bruce Banner, it's his burden to carry.

                            How about G.Hill 13 3's in a row and 22 of 24 in the 3 point contest.

Not quite sure what the deal was with West, as he seemed at one point during the scrimmage that he wanted to duke someone for fouling him. As for his involvement with fans, I found him to be quite patient and friendly at the STH event last year. I wouldn't call him outgoing. If you listened to Mark Montieth's interview with him last year, I think I understand. I don't think it was his intention to be rude yesterday with the kids sitting around. I think many players played focussed like in a real scrimmage.

Plumlee was quite friendly and good-natured when I explained that I wanted to take his picture to make a bighead for the G2 section. I hope he works hard and that the hard work pays off.
