Re: 2012-13 NBA Random Thoughts Thread IX: Ode to Joy

Every team that eliminated a squad with Derek Fisher on it has gone on to win the NBA Finals. A perfect 7-0.

    1999 Spurs

    2003 Spurs

    2004 Pistons

    2007 Spurs (Fisher with Utah)

    2008 Celtics

    2011 Mavericks

    and the 2012 Heat

What will happen with the 2013 Grizzlies?

What was CP3's relationship with Byron Scott like? If I'm the Clippers and those two got along, I'm targeting Byron.

Of course, this is the Clippers we're talking about. They'd just as likely hire Mike Dunlap.

Odds are, they'll hire whoever will get Chris Paul to resign. It really doesn't matter who coaches. Me coaching with Chris Paul >>>>>> Phil Jackson coaching without Chris Paul.

Don't really know where to put this, but I thought it was funny so I'll throw it in here. During Chad Ford's chat today he made a rather interesting comment:

                    Vince (Sacramento)

Who do you see the Kings taking at #7 with the first pick in the Ranadive era?
                    Chad Ford (1:54 PM)

So tough to tell. First thing Kings need is a GM in place. I don't think the Kings should just stick with what they have. They need to shake things up at the top. I think an experienced GM is probably the way to go -- with the way Indiana has rebuilt, grabbing someone like David Morway might be a fit. Then they have to decide who is staying and who is going on the roster. Only then do you really have a feel of what to do here. I have them taking Michael Carter-Williams -- a big point guard who has the potential to be great.
I see Chad is still talking up his pal David Morway

Jeff Hornacek has agreed in principle to become the next head coach of the Phoenix Suns, sources confirmed to ESPN.com.

Hornacek, who had a 14-year career as an NBA player and recently served as an assistant with the Utah Jazz, will sign a three-year deal as early as Sunday night to join the Suns, according to sources.

The 50-year-old Hornacek also had interviewed for the vacant Charlotte Bobcats head coaching job. However, the Suns began negotiating a deal Sunday with Hornacek, who has maintained a home in the Phoenix area.

A fan favorite as a Suns player, Hornacek will attempt to help Phoenix rebound from one of the worst seasons in franchise history.
The Suns are coming off a last-place finish in the Western Conference at 25-57, the fourth-worst record in the NBA and second-worst in franchise history behind a 16-66 effort in their inaugural season of 1968-69.

Interim coach Lindsey Hunter went 12-29 after taking over in January for Alvin Gentry, who was fired in his fourth season with the Suns.
The Suns dismissed general manager Lance Blanks last month. Blanks had served as general manager since August 2010.

Hornacek played the first six seasons of his NBA career in Phoenix after being picked in the second round by the Suns in the 1986 draft. He averaged a career-best 20.1 points per game in 1991-92, a season in which he made his lone All-Star appearance. It was also his final season in Phoenix as he was traded before the following season to the Philadelphia 76ers in a deal that brought Charles Barkley to the Suns.

Good, we can scratch Phoenix and Charlotte as jobs Brian Shaw might have been a candidate for.
