Re: 2012-13 NBA Random Thoughts Thread IX: Ode to Joy

So is this going to be the playoff random thoughts thread?

In case you are interested, here are the numbers of viewers (millions)for the weekend cable games.

    Saturday
    5:30 - Warriors at Denver - 2.8
    8:00 - Bulls at Nets - 3.3
Grizzlies at LA Clippers - 3.4

    Sunday
    1:00 - Hawks at Pacers - 2.2
    7:00 - Bucks at Miami - 4.9
    9:30 - Rockets at OKC - 4.3

The two ABC games are not final numbers, so they will likely be adjusted.

    Saturday - ABC
    Celtics at Knicks - 4.7

    Sunday
    Lakers at SA - 5.6

Pacers-Hawks game fewest viewers by over half mil. Why doesn't that surprise me.

Not surprising. Some of the reason was the time slot. Early afternoon especially as we get into better weather is not a good timeslot. But yes if all the games were in equal time slots and each game was equally close - I believe the pacers vs hawks would still get the lowest ratings.

As a parent, I am familiar with

"straighten up kid, or you are going in timeout"
"straighten up kid, or you will lose TV for a week"
"straighten up kid, or you are grounded for a week"

            but
"straighten up kid, or you are going to Cleveland"

            seems a little harsh.
The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!).

I chalk it up to the early time slot too, but I wonder what the local numbers were, probably not very good. Indianapolis just doesn't care much for the NBA.

At least it looks like progress is happening

@MikeWellsNBA: Game 2 was the highest-rated Pacers game on Fox Sports Indiana since Feb. 4, 2003 against the Lakers.

Did any of you know that Paul George and Chris Duhon are cousins? Chris Duhon and Jarrett Jack are also cousins. No word on whether PG and PD fan favorite Jarrett Jack are related, however.

Has FSI aired any other playoff games since 2003?

It looks like Game 2, Game 3, and Game 5 against Orlando last year and game 3 against the Bulls the previous year would have all been on FSI. I can't find any easily accessible place that the game networks are listed for any of the playoff games before that.

Last year's game #4 between the Pacers and Heat was on a Sunday afternoon and the ratings were high enough to be about equal to what the Colts receive for a typical regular season game. That was the highest ratings since 2004 for the pacers

Anyone listen to todays BS Report. Really fun and interesting stuff, and some tidbits on why Kenyon Martin signed with Knicks and no other team, and discussions about defensive player of the year.

Well, I'd assume that PG and JJ are distant cousins then....as least about a million times removed ?

not necessarily. Paul and Duhon could be cousins on their Dad's side and Duhon and Jack on their mother's side. That would leave Paul and Jack unrelated.

Cousins removed is different. IIRC, it is like great grand parents. My mom's first cousin is my first cousin one time removed. My kid would be their first cousin two times removed.
