    Re: Ian Mahinmi to Indiana

With regards to DC though - he had made it clear end of the season that he doesn't sees himself as a bench player - he wants to be a starter - at the end of the season he managed to stick it out and play it through for the big picture but I had serious doubts how he would've handled coming off the bench again this year. I think it was wise to move DC - however I'm not sure if this was the best you could've gotten for him.

To be fair...on PD...it's been a lukewarm welcome by most.

I liked his defense in the Finals last year, although I think LeBron dunked one right on his head once. Don't mind the trade at all. I really like DC but for whatever reason it never clicked in Indy with him. Absolutely wish him the best in Dallas.

          Re: Ian Mahinmi to Indiana

I was mad at first, but now I'm really starting to like the moves the Pacers made today for the following reasons:

          * Salary dump, we weren't going to pay DC so we turned him into what a solid backup big
          * Ian Mahinmi I think is going to be a great backup big. I'm excited. Very athletic, has good per 36 numbers, has grown a lot and I think this season is his big breakout season
          * this team has desperately needed a legit backup SF. Gerald Green is definitely that. And one more super athletic player at that. If he can play solid D, rebound and hit open threes we'll love him
          * The Pacers just saved money yet have two legit front court players here for the next 3 to 4 years. That is great news!
          * Both Green and Mahinmi both have a chance to really become major contributors to a winning ball club.

After doing a little research on Ian Mahinmi I really do think this is going to work out for the Pacers. I think they're going to be big, physical and athletic.

The Pacers have also become a much better shooting team this season as well. Orlando Johnson and Gerald Green have replaced DC and Jones, two guys who had to pick their spots carefully on the perimeter. Folks this is going to be good. Real good.

The only thing the Pacers need to be worried about is a backup point, but as Free agency has just begun, I don't think it is time to worry yet.

i honestly think we could have done better than a solid backup big for both dc and jones.

people on mavs forum say he has problems with staying on court due to picking up fouls quickly.

i don't know man my heart wants this guy to be good. but my mind says this is just an awful trade.

i'm pleased with green signing btw.

I think we could have gotten more out of DC too, but considering it was a salary dump I don't mind it. I mean you can't necessarily consider talent for talent- Dallas also took on DJ's contract. Also, I think Green completely replaces DC's scoring off the bench. I really think this is going to work out. I think the bench got better.

Instead of last season this team was having it's front court get beat because they were undersized, 3-5, this team has size now 3-5. Real good news.

                  Re: Ian Mahinmi to Indiana

Wow...a lot of people overreacting and a lot of people overreact because of them...PD is a funny place to lose your nerves!

When we saw this years playoffs, everybody agreed, that it was our bench that sucked up badly from time to time.
I watched an interview with Bryan Shaw at summerleague yesterday, and he admitted that our starting 5 was solid, but we need better bench production.
Our FO told us that our main targets for the offseason were retaining Hibbert and Hill!

So now we retained both of them and had to pay, because in this league you have to pay a bigman a max contract and your starting PG has to get a load of money too.
After that, our FO addresses the bench needs.
Who was bad in the playoffs? Lou and Hansbrough. So we obviously need a backup PF/C and Plumlee needs some time to develop.
We got that PF/C in Mahinmi to a reasonable price over 4 years, where we can work with him. Remember Hibbert got the same problems with fouling out in 10 minutes, so maybe he can give Mahinmi some advice how to stop that. I also think he will learn a lot from DWest too.
We gave up DC and DJ, whom I both liked as persons and players, but I think we handled the situation pretty well, because we gave them to a team, where DC can start with a good cast around him. We couldnt retain DC, that was clear since we signed Hill, developed Lances' skills and went strongly after Mayo.
I don't consider that a bad move at all.
Now we obviously got Gerald Green. I don't know if he is good or not, cause I didn't saw him play, but I guess he can be as good as Dahntay Jones. I think there are still some interesting moves to come, so please turn on your LarryBirdPatienceButton PD members !
I like it, that we form a team that is athletic and has really good size at every position!
I hope Collison and Dahntay will succeed, really good guys!!!

I got off of work and read through this whole thread and all I gotta say is wow....

So, apparently people that hated Collison and ripped on him all year are calling him a legit point guard... interesting.

I think Mahnmi was a good pickup because he can backup Roy/D-West and is athletic and very defensive based and can explode at the rim on offense. I mean yeah, he might be foul-prone, but wasn't Roy Hibbert at one point? Roy will be a great mentor for the young fella.

If the Gerald Green thing is actually true, then I am pretty excited. Sure he might not be the sexy pickup like O.J. Mayo (who I did want), but he has always intrigued me and is a better backup SF than Dahntay Jones and has Paul George's athletic ability.

If we truly do get Augustin that makes up for the loss of DC and then some. It always seemed like Augustin lit us up when we played Charlotte. It will be intriguing to see what he does on a winning team where he has more serviceable guys to pass to.

All in all these moves have me more excited than most and people shouldn't overreact until you see what these guys do on the court. Also, we just got REALLY athletic.

DC is great in the right system, we weren't building around DC and he wasn't the right fit. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't get basketball. Sometimes players don't ft the mold.

My thoughts exactly. Fans are funny - especially Pacer fans. When a guy's on our team he sucks but when he's traded he suddenly becomes an all star in people's minds. DC was roasted on this board and he's traded and that's not good enough either.

Obviously there is some things in the works. So far I like the FO's approach to things - they have handled things perfectly so far. The Hibbert situation could not have went any better and somehow they convinced Hill to not even talk to any other team.

                              Re: Ian Mahinmi to Indiana

Ian Mahimni is a dependable backup Forward - Center. He has size and he is athletic. He will keep the defense honest since he is more than capable of stuffing it when he sees an open lane.

                              Here are some examples:

He is also a decent FT shooter. His career average is 69.1% and that's quite good for a backup F-C.

So, I think that this trade means that we don't bring back Lou. I like Lou but I can understand how the FO sees Mahimni as an upgrade over him. He is bigger, equally athletic, can finish inside better and can shoot FTs better.

Of course, I don't like the package we sent to Dallas to get Mahimni. But I like Mahimni so I'll welcome him

DC was great and I'm grateful for all the help that he gave us. This trade doesn't feel like it gave us the right value.

But this trade is made in order to make other things happen. Like the Gerald Green signing. Or something else that we have yet to see.

The FO brought back our RFAs and now is making moves to free up space and do something more. They have a plan. I like it
