So the Timberwolves Assitant GM pleaded current GM to draft Paul George over Wesley Johnson

How does the hiring of Rick Adelman stack up with some of the other major moves David Kahn has made? We rate the top five.

The Wolves didn't want the problems DeMarcus Cousins brought to the table in 2010, and Kahn ignored his assistant GM's plea to take Paul George ahead of Johnson. Johnson is solid, but that's all he'll ever be. Williams has a chance to be terrific, though his fit in Minny is questionable.

Whether PG is a home run or not is yet to be determined. But I'd say he's a least a double. Which is nice after whiffing on Shawn Williams and a couple others.

This guy sounds like me. I have that exact same opinion of Wes and have sense his days at Syracuse he literally made no sense unless you are picking 12-15 IMO. Paul George worked out with the Twolves the day before the draft no doubt they had interest. This stuff happens a lot though the guys who do more scouting will have a different opinion than the guy who scouts less.

So who was the Twolves assistant GM who wanted George over Johnson? Must have been Tony Ronzone right? He left the Wolves recently, citing philosophical differences.

Tony Ronzone came to the Minnesota Timberwolves shortly before the 2010 draft and was charged with revamping the organization's scouting department and helping to improve the team's lackluster performance in the draft.

I find it hard to believe there were circles other than this alleged ***'t GM that thought PG was worth at op 4 pick. Us taking him at 10 was above where he was expected to go basically anywhere. Not by a ton but he was a late lotto/mid 1st kinda guy, if you believe the guys "in the know" anyway. I'd absolutely take him over Johnson (who I was never high on, really old for his class, no actual skills other than athleticism blah blah toot toot my own horn I can't substantiate), but it doesn't mean much.

I adore PG, every single thing about the kid. But he's not even played 70 career games. Remember that long, lanky defensive stalwart jump outta the gym athlete Minnesota drafted named Corey Brewer that can barely find a roster spot now? PG's not THAT much better a prospect than he was. Let's try and slow down.

I honestly think Lance'd be MUCH more of a steal if he gets his head right. Nothing at all to do with draft position, Lance is a top 10 talent that's an idiot. Kid grows up, we're smellin roses.

They would of took Cousins and traded back with Detroit or later (Detroit loved him) IMO if they were gonna listen to their assist. But from taking my GM class this happens all the time. My teacher in my GM course was an assist under Nellie in GS and he said he never got his pick taken. The one time Nellie listen to him was on Tim Hardaway. He was out voted 6-1 and Nellie went with his 1 vote. He only listen to him in that instance because he had been right on so many previous players. Later he also drafted Latrell Sprewell a pretty big steal at #24. So I can see some people in the war rooms of top teams who wanted to take Paul or trade back and get him but were told no.

Oh the irony. Kahn hates the Pacers, who wound up taking the guy they made a mistake passing on. Thanks for the assist Kahn!

I think BRush and others mistake Pauls humbleness and willingness to listen and learn as soft. I don't see that, he gets after guys defensively, isn't afraid to take a shot. He's only going to get better. I'd probably take Paul 4th in a redraft, knowing what I know now or he'd at least be in the discussion.

Two things on the bolded parts. I think PG had much more of an offensive game then Brewer in college, much more

I agree with your point on Lance

Sports Business Management, or just Business Management? I am very interested in that as well.
