D Jones to sit when Rush returns

Dahntay Jones has been able to get some run recently with the injury to Brandon Rush, however that's about to come to an end. Rush, who has been out for about a week with a sprained right ankle, could return to the active roster on Sunday against the New Jersey Nets. That means Jones will be out of the rotation, which is where he has been for most of the season.

"On my depth chart, Jones is our fifth wing," head coach Frank Vogel told The Indianapolis Star. "He's right there next to being our second wing. There's not a big gap in between the guys who are ahead of him. I have a great deal of confidence in him."

Jones has played in only 11 games this season and is averaging 7.7 minutes, 2.7 points and 1.4 rebounds.

The Pacers would like to trade Jones, but they can't find a taker for him. Jones is owed $2.7 million for next season and $2.9 million in 2012-13, which is a player option.

About six weeks after his altercation with Bobby Portis, forward Nikola Mirotic participated in the Chicago Bulls' practice session for the first time.

Unfounded comment by someone that has no ties to the team. Not saying that it may not prove to be true, but this article means nothing, considering there is no direct quote from anyone actually saying Dahntay is going to be out of the rotation.

I find it mildly surprising it says we are looking to trade him. Granted he isn't the youngest guy in the world, but he isn't really owed all that much money. He is a great locker room guy and gives 100% effort when he does play. I personally think it is nice to have him so that the younger players have a good veteran to look up to.

It should be interesting to see who starts.

I would love to keep Dahntay around. He's a great locker room guy, is always the first one up off the bench to high five players after a time-out, and by all accounts is just an all around good person. $2.7 million is chump change in the grand scheme of things. If we have to throw him into a trade to match salaries, so be it, but I wouldn't be actively shopping him to other teams.

Although you're right.....it's reasonable to conclude that BRush is a more well rounded Player and therefore would likely be ahead of Inferno in the SG/SF rotation.

I hate that we turned a starter into the 5th wing because he cannot shoot the three. Jones is a great player. I wish Vogel would give him another 5 games to get his rhythm before he uses rush again.

I agree. I just hate when these "insiders" try to make a story with no real evidence to back it up. Sure we can assume that Rush moves ahead of Dahntay in the rotation, but that doesn't make it true before it happens. Vogel said himself that there is not a big gap in talent amongst our wings and Jones could just as easily be our 2nd wing off the bench. Must be a slow day at ESPN.com.

With Vogel's new "smashmouth" image for our team, I kinda like keeping Dahntay around for some here and there smashmouthing.

Jones is not a great player. He started on the Nuggets, sure. But he only played 15 minutes a game, which is right about where are 4th wing would play.

It doesn't have to do with him not being able to shoot the 3. He is only making $2.7 million for a reason. He is extremely one dimensional, and even at that he is only above average at what he does well. Mean while we have four other players who are more well rounded, 3 of which can play as good or better man-to-man defense, and all 4 are better offensive players.

Yeah, there kind of is. Vogel says in the artcile that Dahntay is the fifth wing. Unless he plans on playing an absurd 5 wing rotation, then it means Dahntay is out of the rotation.

seems pretty straight forward to me. brandon rush >>> dahntay jones. if brandon is healthy he gets to play.

Wow you have to love stat guys...

Rush has proven to be a inconsistent player. He is in his 4th years and shows no sign of progressing.

How is Jones a one dimensional player? He plays both sides of the ball and gets the ball to the rim. He forces the issue. He would be the best player on this team to back up paul george at the 2 position.

Would you rather have a guy that makes his presence known when he is on the court or would you rather have the guy that every one *****es about after the game because he camps in the corner and occasionally has a 15 point game?

                            Both are good defenders.

When I say great player. I mean great bench/energy player.
