Honestly, our defense doesn't bother me that much

NOTE: No Murphy talk in this thread, please. There are other places for it.

Anyway, I can live with the D.

Crazy, I know. Our defense is terrible, and a big part of why we lose. It's just that a lot of our difficulties on D seem to be predicated by a lack of discipline on O. We go down, take a quick shot, and the other team gets to attack in transition. I would get so frustrated watching TJ take long contested 2s with 20 seconds left in the shot clock, but tonight I watched Dunleavy do it several times as well. That's not a player issue, that's a system issue.

Our defense is shoddy, but some of that I can chalk up to player weaknesses. I hate our offense because it's shoddy by design.

Sorry, the fact that the Minnesota Timberwolves had the most free throw attempts out of every game in the NBA tonight bothers me.

Slick kept on talking tonight about how Roy wasn't in the low post like the past several games.

He kept saying we needed the inside-out offense going, and that we weren't doing it. He clearly was referencing the "two returning starters" and the switch to perimeter oriented scoring.

So that's another advantage to anchoring the offense around Roy. Less chance to transition buckets by the opponent.

I don't think Granger's defense is near as bad as people make it out to be. I also think Rush doesn't get enough credit for his D. Dahntay Jones' D really hasn't stood out to me like it has to everyone else though.

The two thing that have always bothered me about Jim O'Brien's system: 1) Big men used as distributors past the foul line (see Jeff Foster's buzzer "beater"_, 2) The fact that the person who brings the ball up the court almost always passes it as soon as he gets past the half-line, only to receive it right back.

When we started going post-Hibbert, the first thing stopped. The second thing never stopped. I don't understand why we do that.

The defense doesn't really bother me that much this year either, because its just one more factor that will get us closer to a higher pick. Its the offense that really bothers me, I can accept watching a team with bad defense if they are fun on offense, but this team isn't either. Well there were those 3 games McRoberts was throwing down Alley Oops.

Normally I'd agree, but in this case I think the problem at the DEF end is the same one as the OFF end. You don't have a plan and the proper people to play coordinated ball together. Meaning I don't think it's just the transitions that make the defense look worse, I think it's the same bad functionality on offense being applied at the other end, even when following made shots and total half court offense.

Let's see, if our bigs are in the high post and the 3 point line, and our guards and swingment are cutting to the basket when not launching a jumper, what could possibly go wrong on D if we miss the jumpshot?

I don't understand how Bird says he wants to make the playoffs but then continually lets JOB make the same bad decisions over and over.

I can tell you that I think the defense runs better when we have more athletic Frontcourt and backcourt. The more "energy Players" that we have on the floor that are more active on both ends of the floor, the better our defense runs.

Frankly, I think that if JO'B was able to minimize the # of unathletic Players on the floor at the same tiime while not pairing up certain players with other Players.....I think it would make a difference. But this goes to the heart of the Pacers Player Weaknesses.....the problem is that many Players that JO'B is dependent on isn't too atheletic.

See how I was able to not mention "you know who" by name but still discuss him "indirectly".

Do we see this when Hansbrough and McRoberts is on the floor?

My guess is not as they don't venture too far away from the paint and even make an effort to help pull down an Offensive Rebound.

I agree with you -- particularly in the fourth quarter. One player that I won't mention seems to have good first halves but disappears in the second half. He should not be in at the end of games. And I also thought Price should have played more in the second half.

I aggree that our offensive system if you want to call it that a lot of times makes it easier for the opposing team to score when they go on a fastbreak. Offcourse, this is by design and a choice by the coach and it's a legit choice with a positive tradeoff in his opinion.

What makes it inexcusable in my humble opinion is that he doesn't put multiple players on the floor who don't work together well on Defense and are both, for NBA men, slow. Putting Hibbert and the player you rather not mention in this topic both on the floor at the sametime is a defensive nightmare itself, but we get absolutely mauled if we use them together like we have at the sametime in this type of offense (and defense too).

The Pacers are currently in "Tank Incognito" mode which is very closely related to
"Showcase Incognito" . That is my explanation for what we are seeing. :-)
