What was the summer's most important acquisition?

I'm interested in hearing from the forum which of our many offseason acquisitions was the most important for our franchise.

I could have included options like "traded Jermaine O'Neal" or "made it clear Tinsley is moving on" etc., but wanted to stick simply with player acquisitions.

Which player is and will be most important and helpful, and why?

Probably Ford, but I believe Hibbert will have a surprising impact.

Ford by a wide margin... Rush comes in a distant second and Hibbert and Jack are career backups.

The acquisition of Ford - in return for the team's franchise player at a need position - indicates the change of culture (thanks AJ) that finally has occurred. He's the most important on and off the court.

Rush may be the most important long-term, if he becomes as good as he thinks he can be.

I picked Jack myself because there will be games that will be missed by Ford. Not too many guys got the full 82.

I voted based on the upcoming season.

Ford adds so much it's hard to quantify. Primarily he adds perimeter defense. Second, quickness and penetration on offense. I can see him driving and dishing to Dunleavy or Granger for a three...or going in for a quick layup. The guy is lightening quick...faster than any Pacer in history. He also has some leadership skills.

Consider this. He will likely reduce the other team's offense and increase the Pacer's offense as compared to Diener. I think he represents a 10 point swing and IF HEALTHY we go .500 next year.

Depends on who we get for Jamaal.

Short term Ford, long term Rush, so I voted Rush.

The next acquisition will be the most important one.

I voted Jack......he's the PG that pressure opposing PGs that we have been looking for.

I say Ford because he fills a position we've sorely needed for the better part of a decade and he and jack combined make tinsley expendable. I hope tinsley is off the roster before the season starts.

This is exactly what I was thinking before I opened the thread... in the general sense of transactions, trading JO was the most important thing that the team did in the offseason. And it probably will be for a very long time, even over getting rid of Jamaal.

Yes, it was the required next step before this team was going to make steps forward. Too much money tied up in a player who hardly played and when he did play was not playing well. He was walking anyway and we just got a one year head start on the future...
