2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup Thread

Surprised there isn't a thread started already for this, unless there is and I missed it?

Watching the first US exhibition game right now against Puerto Rico. Tyrese looked solid in the first half off the bench. He ran the second unit and did a good job advancing the ball. Nothing too noteworthy but solid. They seemed to pick on him a couple of times on defense with off ball screens. Second half starting now.

Ty hasn't scored yet but has eight assists at the end of the third quarter.

US blew it open in the second half and won by more than 40. Tyrese with, I believe, 7 points, 12 assists, a block and a steal or two.

From the clips I've seen from practice and this game, Haliburton and Cam Johnson have very good chemistry.

I've been following all of the scrimmage compilations posted on Youtube and such, but couldn't view the whole exhibition game, unfortunately. I only had access to the 10 minute game highlight package. Will definitely be able to watch all of the actual Cup games though, and super excited for it.

Tyrese continues to look good running the second team offense. Another double-double earlier today in their exhibition win over Spain. Kerr is starting to play him a bit off ball with Brunson as well.

I read that Haliburton even played some defense (!)

his defense (when trying) was good, while he is running the 2nd unit he was running the 1st unit at the end of the 2nd quarter as the 1st unit ran into losing a 7pt lead, they ended the 2nd Q with around a 10 pt lead.

I feel most of what's wrong and preventing them from rolling up everyone is coaching and tending to certain players.

If Tyrese plays like this for us the coming season he will average 14 ast and 5 steals ( i know the sheet says he had 3, i saw the game in full and he had his hand on at least 5 interrupts.
                (and a block!)

Some exhibition games from the weekend:

Goga with 21 points (perfect 9/9 from the field).

Theis with 16 points in 20 minutes vs Canada:

I think that's the main thing he will learn/improve from this experience.

It also looks like he may have sped up his jumpshot a little bit.

Haliburton was a monster today and closed the game at point in the comeback win against Germany. Also, this tweet from Bill Simmons:

                      @BillSimmons
Team USA’s biggest issue for the actual tournament — accepting that Haliburton and Reaves are 2 of the best guys on the team. They’re gonna have to be out there in any big situation even if feelings get hurt.

Bahamas (with Buddy, Ayton, and E Gordon and some guy named Munnings lol) knocked out Argentina from Olympic contention

Congratulations to Buddy and the Bahamas team!

The Bahamian men's basketball team, led by Indiana Pacers guard Buddy Hield, and center Deandre Ayton and guard Eric Gordon of the Phoenix Suns, defeated Argentina, 82-75, Sunday, earning a spot in a 2024 qualifying tournament for the Paris Olympic Games.

Seriously though, what happened to Argentina? There used to be a boatload of good Argie players in the NBA — and one great one, of course — but I can’t think of a single one in the league now.
