What is a "burner account" and why is it worthy of investigation?

Kevin Durant had one and for a ref he was arguing with Lakers fans and expresses a Celtics bias.

A burner account in this context is a second twitter account where someone famous pretends to be somebody different than themselves. Usually so they can say things that would attract scrutiny if they said it from their official account.

As for why it merits an investigation, it depends on what each person said. For somebody like Durant, it was just a temporary embarrassment. The Sixers GM lost his job over it because he said things about Sixers players that shouldn't be said by a GM using those accounts. If this referee was using a burner, it depends on what he was talking about whether it's more of the former or the latter case.
