Amazon is poised to stream the games of five Major League Baseball teams this season after extending a roughly $100 million lifeline to help broadcaster Diamond Sports emerge from bankruptcy, The Post has learned.

Diamond — the nation’s largest regional sports network (RSN) with broadcast rights to 11 MLB teams, half the NBA teams and a third of the NHL teams — also is expected to win a separate, $495 million infusion after finalizing a settlement with parent company Sinclair, sources told The Post late Tuesday.

The two new revenue streams will be presented to a US bankruptcy judge in Houston as early as Wednesday. The deal is expected to win approval despite MLB’s potential objections, sources said.

The network’s streaming rights for NBA and NHL teams ends after this season. Diamond, which may not emerge from bankruptcy until after the current season, is expected to negotiate for the 2024-25 streaming rights so Amazon can air local basketball and hockey games going forward.

would make sense for Amazon to get further into sports. We will see if an Amazon prime membership will get you local sports

Diamond Sports and the NBA have reached an agreement that effectively makes this the last year of the Pacers current deal on Bally:

Time to see if the team can find enough quality local stations to make OTA broadcasting an option.

Sounds like Bally has to miss a payment before you can claim breach of contract so Suns will likely get taken to court.

    Thanks for sharing. More info:
Starting with their next seasons, Suns and Mercury games will be broadcast for free over-the-air and streamed online on a new direct-to-consumer service.

NBC Sports Washington isn't even owned by Comcast anymore; they just haven't rebranded yet.

Even then, that tactic is right out of Comcast's playbook; don't be evil where the politicians are (they still don't have data caps on their internet service in that region).

F, Bally's. To bad the games aren't on free TV like they use to be. So where will Pacers games be soon?

Now if Hope Plumping would go out of business I'd be real happy. I freaking hate their commercials.

I'm crying a river of tears.

8,000,000,000$ in debt? I wonder how much the mafia bosses at the top have of that stashed away in offshore bank accounts. Sure glad I didn't buy into it.

What don’t you like about it particularly? Just curious. I had some issues with the DVR portion and stupid issues with overtime games early on but they seem to have worked that out. Aside from the repetitive commercials, I like it.

Not necessarily; I believe that channel 23 is almost entirely re-runs these days. I just don't know how large the viewing area would be, but I've found it's carried apparently at least as far west as Crawsfordville via Metronet (although I do believe that an outdoor antenna would likely be required that far out for OTA reception). The team would probably have to find a station in Terre Haute and Bloomington as well, and it would probably be road game coverage only, but I don't think the idea would entirely be impossible.

Now the cost for 23 to get local broadcasting rights....... that actually might be out of their reach.
