    Collin Sexton Thread

It is being reported that the Cavโ€™s offer to Collin Sexton is three years, 40 million dollars. He is only 23 years old. Would we be smart to offer him a contract closer to 17-18 million per year?

My thinking is that one of two things would happen. He would either sign the contract and come to the Pacers. We could play him for a year, then he would be a tradable contract next offseason. Or, Cleveland matches and has to spend an extra 5 million per year on his contract. Cleveland is a young team in our division, so making them pay some extra cash to lock up an asset would be advantageous.

Well, the Pacers have the $$ to spend, he's got quite a bit of that dreaded 'potential'.... but he's a PG. Not sure if another is really needed.

No. We have plenty of guards, we need a starting SF.

He's a short shooting guard who can play SOME pg minutes. If they don't make any more moves He could be a good asset for future moves. He and Hali could fit together. But I'd hate to see Mathurin lose minutes if they want Sexton to play.

To me that would be the only reason to make that move. He would be a good asset to flip.

I think that if we trade Buddy, that Sexton would play those minutes. If we are tanking, and start Duarte and Mathurin, then let Sexton run with the 2nd unit.

If Turner and Hield get traded for Westbrook, do the Pacers have enough money to sign anyone?

We have $30 mil in cap. Sending out Buddy and Myles is $42 mil in salary. Taking back Russ would leave us with around $22 mil in space.

i mean it doesn't sound like he's that good of an asset because no one wants to sign him

I like him. He's probably worth closer to the 17-18 mil than what they're offering but I'm not eager to add him to a rebuilding team. I say just let the Cavs have him so they have a better chance to make the playoffs next season. It'll be a few years before we're competing with them anyway.

We already had a player similar to him in Aaron Holiday. He might be just a little bit better, but not by much.

If Duarte or Mathurin was capable of playing SF & PF so we could have a closing line-up of Haliburton, Sexton, Mathurin, Duarte + Turner/Smith/Jackson then I'd be all for it.

no no no no no no and a million times no...

is he a difference maker? no

is he an undersized shooting guard? yes....

is he very good...again, nothing of any major consequence....

do we have alot of guards already? yes...

has he been out for injuries??? yes....

why in the world would we want to spend that kind of money on a guy when we have guys probably better making a lot less...and then have to worry more about minutes for all of them....

                            no no no...
