    Who "didn't like it?"

As we deal with the "are we better with or without JO" talk, I'd like to hearken back to game four or five or so when JOB made a statement that was revealing.

I can't remember the exact quote (maybe someone can dig it up) but it was in regards to him continuing to use a fast paced system. "Some didn't like it" he said, or something to the effect that one or two guys were resisting.

Who were those guys? Was one of them JO?

Everyone else, it seems, has gotten on board. JO has been injured. But JOB himself says JO wants to play up tempo.

So, anyway, I'm wondering who the "resisters" were, early on.

“The guys are really so on board with what we're doing,” said Coach Jim O’Brien. “We get together after a tough loss and sit down and look at the difference between one quarter and another quarter. I think our guys are actually surprised. There's no reluctance on their part to want to do it. It takes great conditioning. I think our guys are well-conditioned.

“It's a matter of, I think, building constantly mental toughness to be able to run through fatigue, run through any aches or pains. We play one way, this is the way we play, and we're going to play this way for 48 minutes. I did not anticipate this was going to be worked out in the first two weeks. It takes some time, especially when you're going from a slowdown team to an up-tempo team. We're fighting the battle.”
sounds like they're all on board...?

I remember there was a quote from O'Brien about that, but it wasn't as strong of a statement as you are making it seem. I remember hearing it or reading it and not thinking too much of it

I don't know about the quote in question, but in every response I've seen from JO in regards to the uptempo system he has clearly been in favor of it. He seemed primarily in favor of any system that keeps him from constantly being hammered on in the post, which I could understand.

And while off-topic a bit, I think the quote Bellisimo posted confirms my suspicion behind JOBs unwillingness to call the time out during that stretch in the Denver game where the guys looks looked completely spent. It's all about a mental toughness over fatigue in this kind of system.

Did he mean a player or players were downright resisting and talking with him about it... or did he mean they were just falling back into old habits during games/practice?

IOW.... he could've mean JO, Tinsley or a host of others but not meant they were against the change. Instead, he could've meant it just wasn't coming natural and/or they hadn't figured out what was expected and how to implement the new system the whole game.

I don't remember the remark so I'm just guessing based on your post.

"They could turn out to be only innocent mathematicians, I suppose," muttered Woevre's section officer, de Decker.

"'Only.'" Woevre was amused. "Someday you'll explain to me how that's possible. Seeing that, on the face of it, all mathematics leads, doesn't it, sooner or later, to some kind of human suffering."

That was my thought as well. I remarked in another thread, but it's as if once the ball goes into the post everybody forgets to move. It's not just Jermaine and Ike... it happened to Tinsley and (once) Foster. It's like once somebody's got the ball with their back to the basket, everybody forgets to move.

Well I don't mean this offensively, but reasonably shouldn't we wait till the correct, exact quote is found (with context) before we waste time debating who it was and what it meant?

If and when someone digs it up will have plenty of time and pages to debate it, even if it ultimately is moot given how the team is playing and will continue to play (style I mean). The discussion is fine, moot or not, but only if the jumping off point is legit and solid.

                        Yeah, I agree.

I made the thread with the expectation that someone would post the actual quote. I still think they will. Until then, yeah, it's moot.

With all due respect to 'the quote', talk is cheap and meaningless.
All that matters is actions 'on the court'.

If J.O. plays in a way that shows he's embracing and functioning
properly in the new system and his teamates continue doing so
while playing with him, then it's all good.

                          If not,....

                              Maybe I was daydreaming.

Seriously, I remember a quote from JOB where he reinforced his total commitment to a running game in a team meeting, and noted that "a couple guys didn't like it" or "resisted" or something to that effect.

It was after we had lost a couple, I think, or maybe a game or two after JO returned.

I'll search PD during that stretch of time.
