    Monta Ellis seriously injured

He was injured during practice, and was on the floor for about 25 minutes, and that he's immobile from the shoulders down. I really hope he can recover from this, but it sounds like a devistating injury for the Warriors.

ESPN is reporting this and there should be articles being able to detail his condition better. I just pray for a safe and speedy recovery.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

Terrible news. I know that it's still really early, but I sure hope that it's not career threatening. This guy is a heck of a young talent and is the heir apparent to the Warrior's starting PG job. I am no GS fan, but you never want to see a young guy like this fall victim to a huge injury and have everybody wondering "what if?" If this turns out to be really bad, this is even worse than the Shaun Livingston injury in terms of losing a possible future great.

It's crazy, they said no one took it seriously for 5-10 minutes! that means he was laying there, and no one was helping him. That's crazy, it took 30 minutes for paramedics to get there. This has bad news written all over it. I really hope Ellis can recover from this. He'll be in my prays tonight.

Bucher said he was joking with teammates while being stretchered out, so that's a good sign, sort of. Hope he's ok.

Apparently it's not as bad as may have been feared. According to a Warriors official, Monta is up "walking and laughing."

Warriors guard Monta Ellis has been immobilized after a collision in practice Friday night.

Knew we should have tried to get Pietrus for DA.

              Re: Monta Ellis seriously injured

The Warriors weren't going to trade anything for somebody Indy was going to cut. And they had already offered Pietrus the $3.5M qualifying offer a long time ago. By rule, they had to keep the offer on the table if he wanted it. That was either Pietrus' to take or leave. He ended up taking it on the first day of training camp.

I really don't think Pietrus solves a lot of problems for the Pacers. He'd actually be a good JOB player because he can hit the 3 from the corner and he'll defend (tho his defensive effort has slipped bigtime since his rookie year), but he's just not a smart player. The Stromile Swift of wing players, if you will. He's also asking for a ridiculous contract (which he won't ever get). He said in his own words he was hoping for a Dunleavy/Murphy deal from Mullin. That wasn't happening.

He's athletic and sometimes exciting, but more often than not he's a frustrating player to watch. You'd go nuts with the amount of times he steps out of bounds when trying to spot up for a corner 3.

You didn't miss out on much by not getting Pietrus. Trust me.

We're going into the season starting Mike Dunleavy at shooting guard. His backup is Kareem Rush.

Offensively, Pietrus is not a very good SG. He's better at SF. He's just a very poor ballhandler who's going to turn the ball over and Dunleavy actually takes him in this category. Ask him to do too much hand he'll turn into a trainwreck. Only thing better about him is that he'll stick the corner 3.

Defensively, he's a better SG than Dunleavy simply because he's more athletic. For the Pacers, he'd just be another flawed guy to shuttle in and out. You'd still be looking for a real SG.

Regardless, the Warriors were willing to take him back for a year at $3.5M, but nothing more, and at that price they would have kept him over Armstrong.

Corner 3, less money, better defensive SG

That fits so much better for what JOB has in mind and where the Pacers are at I can't even exaggerate it. Anthem is right, I wish we'd gotten him in the GS deal. I'd take him over Ike even, simply because this team has needs and PF prospect isn't on that list, no more than "another SF" was.

                      Re: Monta Ellis seriously injured

I agree that because of our unfathomably pathetic guard situation we could actually use Mikael Pietrus on this roster. But, moreso, I agree with d_c that he's really not even close to resembling a solution. He's just not that good and if Mikael Pietrus is starting for your team, your team is not very good.

I mean, I was against waiving DA. Not because I think DA is that good, but because we need all the guard help we can find. DA wasn't a real solution, he was a stop-gap. And honestly, the only reason to keep him would have been because it's convenient. Pietrus would fit that stop gap bill too -- and only a marginal stop gap at that. But no one would ever be like "Sweet, we got Pietrus...Our SG problem is solved for the next 5 years." We'd still need to find a real solution if we wanted to be a good team.

Getting Mikeal Pietrus on the Pacers would be like giving a homeless guy three dollars. Sure, that will allow him go buy a sandwich and ease the current hunger pangs, but the dude still doesn't have a job, money or anywhere to stay, and he's still waking up tomorrow outside and hungry. What the dude really needs is a shower, a bed and some clothes, not a sandwich.

And what we need is a Ben Gordon, Leandro Barbosa or Jamal Crawford.

                        Re: Monta Ellis seriously injured

Problem with Army on this team - green light on 3 combined with his extremly high rate of attempts per minute combined with his horrific make rate after NOV last year. 6 at 28% from him per game could get really ugly.

If Dunleavy is your starting SG your team is not very good either. I'm talking about something closer to working than what they did.

Look, I know everyone hates Jackson, but I was for keeping him specifically because he at least fit the team's needs a little bit. Of all the players that worked off of JO Jack was the best match due to his give and go baseline ability, and the streaky 3 on some nights.

So I'd take someone mediocre for now if they kinda fit right.

Maybe Mike will impress me with his changed game (if it is). I love his 2pt off the curl, his passing, and most of his handles. Add a 3 (back, he used to have one long ago) and a finish at the rim (ugh, he's Tins/Foster) and he's probably worth his salary even, which makes him a 2 spot solution.

But those changes seem huge based on the last 3 seasons. People forget that for the most part he's been a worse 3 ball threat than Jackson the last few years. Dun finding a 38% 3pt shot would put him in MIP/comeback contention I think.

As for Gordon/Barbosa/Crawford, no s***, but we don't have the cash or the "talent cash" to get a player of that quality for the SG spot, and likely won't for a few seasons unless JO is traded, making the SG need a moot point since there would be little left for them to work off of. Or maybe someone pulls a Bird and trades for Dun or Troy's contract. GFL on that happening.

I'm not all up on Pietrus, I understand the limits. I'm thinking more in terms of the desperate situation the Pacers are in. They are at a point where that becomes a very seriously legit option. I mean they just signed Rush out of Europe for chrissake. He might have a great year, but no one in the NBA expects that right now.

Geez, they already have a great PG in Oakland.

Would love that but I don't see the Warriors getting rid of him anytime soon. Apart from that, I logistically cannot see what the warriors would want from our squad in exchange for him.

I wonder if TPTB could have gotten Ellis in the big deal instead of Ike?

That would have impacted our roster for the positive, immediately.
