    Anybody here like Dick Versace?

    Well? If you're old enough to remember him.....did ya like him?

    Here, read this....it made my stomach ache.

    (From FoxNews.com)
    ================================================== ====
    Fomer NBA Coach Dick Versace to Enter Illinois Congressional Race
    Saturday, September 22, 2007

    PEORIA, Ill. โ€” Former NBA coach and commentator Dick Versace is looking for a new job: congressman.

    The 67-year-old Versace, a Democrat, said Thursday that he will bid for the 18th Congressional District seat in central Illinois. Incumbent Republican Ray LaHood announced in July he will retire when his term runs out in 2009.

    Versace said he will tour the district in a 28-foot motor home called the "Common Sense Express" after he formally announces his intention to run for office at a news conference in the next couple of weeks.

    "I'm going on a listening tour," he said.

    Versace is well known to basketball fans around the country. He is a former NBA assistant coach and head coach, and was a longtime television commentator.

    In 2005, he stepped down as the Memphis Grizzlies' general manager after six years with the team.

    But before that, he was at Bradley University, where he won three Missouri Valley Conference Championships and a National Invitational Tournament title from 1979 to 1986.

    "I feel a real debt of gratitude to the Peoria area," said Versace, who has homes in Peoria and Chicago. "I had the most wonderful eight years of my life there."

    Versace joins Chuck Giger, a retired Navy aviator who lives in Chatham, as a Democratic candidate. At least three Republicans have announced they will seek the GOP nomination for the seat.

    =============================

    Personally, I NEVER liked him. A Lee Corso clone with a snow white afro. He should be thankful that George Irvine was a Pacer coach so he wouldn't be voted worst Pacer coach ever.

    I'm sure he would represent the fine people of Illinois as well as he did the Pacers organization

      Does he still have that one single hair that is wrapped around and around
      the top of his head like one big long piece of spaghetti?

        At the risk of sending this to the political board I'm just gonna go ahead and say it. Which is worse: Living in the district represented by Julia Carson or by Dick Versace?

            Not the best coach we ever had, but he was here at a tough time. I worked store on the west side of Indy when he was hired. I think he bought a home in the area because he shopped at my store. He was a very down to earth guy, and didn't mind talking about the Pacers. I had a couple of conversations about Detlef, and Mike Williams when we first traded for them. He certainly came across differently then I would expect an NBA head coach to, very approachable just one of guys type of personality.

                Will you can say that with a straight face knowing that George Irvin prowled out sidelines not only once but twice?

                      Yep, I don't like a lot of BS from coaches. Versace talks a way better game than he produces. Hinse I see Versace as the worst of the two.

                        This is completely off topic, but has anyone noticed what is says in the "last post" column on the PD front page when someone makes a post in this thread?

                        I looked first thing this morning and what I saw made me do a double take.

                          I met Mr. Versace while he was coaching the Pacers, he was a "friend of the family" but besides the great tickets we got, he was a real jerk, obnoxious, had huge ego, condescending, just a real jerk. Terrible coach mainly because the players saw right through his act.

                          I did enjoy his radio show though
