The Rules of Pacers Digest

Hello everyone,

Whether your are a long standing forum member or whether you have just registered today, it's a good idea to read and review the rules below so that you have a very good idea of what to expect when you come to Pacers Digest.

A quick note to new members: Your posts will not immediately show up when you make them. An administrator has to approve at least your first post before the forum software will later upgrade your account to the status of a fully-registered member. This usually happens within a couple of hours or so after your post(s) is/are approved, so you may need to be a little patient at first.

Why do we do this? So that it's more difficult for spammers (be they human or robot) to post, and so users who are banned cannot immediately re-register and start dousing people with verbal flames.

Below are the rules of Pacers Digest. After you have read them, you will have a very good sense of where we are coming from, what we expect, what we don't want to see, and how we react to things.

Rule #1

Pacers Digest is intended to be a place to discuss basketball without having to deal with the kinds of behaviors or attitudes that distract people from sticking with the discussion of the topics at hand. These unwanted distractions can come in many forms, and admittedly it can sometimes be tricky to pin down each and every kind that can rear its ugly head, but we feel that the following examples and explanations cover at least a good portion of that ground and should at least give people a pretty good idea of the kinds of things we actively discourage:

"Anyone who __________ is a liar / a fool / an idiot / a blind homer / has their head buried in the sand / a blind hater / doesn't know basketball / doesn't watch the games"

"People with intelligence will agree with me when I say that __________"

"Only stupid people think / believe / do ___________"

"I can't wait to hear something from PosterX when he/she sees that **insert a given incident or current event that will have probably upset or disappointed PosterX here**"

"He/she is just delusional"

"This thread is stupid / worthless / embarrassing"

"I'm going to take a moment to point and / laugh at PosterX / GroupOfPeopleY who thought / believed *insert though/belief here*"

"Remember when PosterX said OldCommentY that no longer looks good? "

In general, if a comment goes from purely on topic to something 'ad hominem' (personal jabs, personal shots, attacks, flames, however you want to call it, towards a person, or a group of people, or a given city/state/country of people), those are most likely going to be found intolerable.

We also dissuade passive aggressive behavior. This can be various things, but common examples include statements that are basically meant to imply someone is either stupid or otherwise incapable of holding a rational conversation. This can include (but is not limited to) laughing at someone's conclusions rather than offering an honest rebuttal, asking people what game they were watching, or another common problem is Poster X will say "that player isn't that bad" and then Poster Y will say something akin to "LOL you think that player is good". We're not going to tolerate those kinds of comments out of respect for the community at large and for the sake of trying to just have an honest conversation.

Now, does the above cover absolutely every single kind of distraction that is unwanted? Probably not, but you should by now have a good idea of the general types of things we will be discouraging. The above examples are meant to give you a good feel for / idea of what we're looking for. If something new or different than the above happens to come along and results in the same problem (that being, any other attitude or behavior that ultimately distracts from actually just discussing the topic at hand, or that is otherwise disrespectful to other posters), we can and we will take action to curb this as well, so please don't take this to mean that if you managed to technically avoid saying something exactly like one of the above examples that you are then somehow off the hook.

That all having been said, our goal is to do so in a generally kind and respectful way, and that doesn't mean the moment we see something we don't like that somebody is going to be suspended or banned, either. It just means that at the very least we will probably say something about it, quite possibly snipping out the distracting parts of the post in question while leaving alone the parts that are actually just discussing the topics, and in the event of a repeating or excessive problem, then we will start issuing infractions to try to further discourage further repeat problems, and if it just never seems to improve, then finally suspensions or bans will come into play. We would prefer it never went that far, and most of the time for most of our posters, it won't ever have to.

A slip up every once and a while is pretty normal, but, again, when it becomes repetitive or excessive, something will be done. Something occasional is probably going to be let go (within reason), but when it starts to become habitual or otherwise a pattern, odds are very good that we will step in.

There's always a small minority that like to push people's buttons and/or test their own boundaries with regards to the administrators, and in the case of someone acting like that, please be aware that this is not a court of law, but a private website run by people who are simply trying to do the right thing as they see it. If we feel that you are a special case that needs to be dealt with in an exceptional way because your behavior isn't explicitly mirroring one of our above examples of what we generally discourage, we can and we will take atypical action to prevent this from continuing if you are not cooperative with us.

Also please be aware that you will not be given a pass simply by claiming that you were 'only joking,' because quite honestly, when someone really is just joking, for one thing most people tend to pick up on the joke, including the person or group that is the target of the joke, and for another thing, in the event where an honest joke gets taken seriously and it upsets or angers someone, the person who is truly 'only joking' will quite commonly go out of his / her way to apologize and will try to mend fences. People who are dishonest about their statements being 'jokes' do not do so, and in turn that becomes a clear sign of what is really going on. It's nothing new.

In any case, quite frankly, the overall quality and health of the entire forum's community is more important than any one troublesome user will ever be, regardless of exactly how a problem is exhibiting itself, and if it comes down to us having to make a choice between you versus the greater health and happiness of the entire community, the community of this forum will win every time.

Lastly, there are also some posters, who are generally great contributors and do not otherwise cause any problems, who sometimes feel it's their place to provoke or to otherwise 'mess with' that small minority of people described in the last paragraph, and while we possibly might understand why you might feel you WANT to do something like that, the truth is we can't actually tolerate that kind of behavior from you any more than we can tolerate the behavior from them. So if we feel that you are trying to provoke those other posters into doing or saying something that will get themselves into trouble, then we will start to view you as a problem as well, because of the same reason as before: The overall health of the forum comes first, and trying to stir the pot with someone like that doesn't help, it just makes it worse. Some will simply disagree with this philosophy, but if so, then so be it because ultimately we have to do what we think is best so long as it's up to us.

If you see a problem that we haven't addressed, the best and most appropriate course for a forum member to take here is to look over to the left of the post in question. See underneath that poster's name, avatar, and other info, down where there's a little triangle with an exclamation point (!) in it? Click that. That allows you to report the post to the admins so we can definitely notice it and give it a look to see what we feel we should do about it. Beyond that, obviously it's human nature sometimes to want to speak up to the poster in question who has bothered you, but we would ask that you try to refrain from doing so because quite often what happens is two or more posters all start going back and forth about the original offending post, and suddenly the entire thread is off topic or otherwise derailed. So while the urge to police it yourself is understandable, it's best to just report it to us and let us handle it. Thank you!

All of the above is going to be subject to a case by case basis, but generally and broadly speaking, this should give everyone a pretty good idea of how things will typically / most often be handled.

Rule #2

If the actions of an administrator inspire you to make a comment, criticism, or express a concern about it, there is a wrong place and a couple of right places to do so.

The wrong place is to do so in the original thread in which the administrator took action. For example, if a post gets an infraction, or a post gets deleted, or a comment within a larger post gets clipped out, in a thread discussing Paul George, the wrong thing to do is to distract from the discussion of Paul George by adding your off topic thoughts on what the administrator did.

The right places to do so are:

A) Start a thread about the specific incident you want to talk about on the Feedback board. This way you are able to express yourself in an area that doesn't throw another thread off topic, and this way others can add their two cents as well if they wish, and additionally if there's something that needs to be said by the administrators, that is where they will respond to it.

B) Send a private message to the administrators, and they can respond to you that way.

If this is done the wrong way, those comments will be deleted, and if it's a repeating problem then it may also receive an infraction as well.

Rule #3

If a poster is bothering you, and an administrator has not or will not deal with that poster to the extent that you would prefer, you have a powerful tool at your disposal, one that has recently been upgraded and is now better than ever: The ability to ignore a user.

When you ignore a user, you will unfortunately still see some hints of their existence (nothing we can do about that), however, it does the following key things:

A) Any post they make will be completely invisible as you scroll through a thread.

B) The new addition to this feature: If someone QUOTES a user you are ignoring, you do not have to read who it was, or what that poster said, unless you go out of your way to click on a link to find out who it is and what they said.

To utilize this feature, from any page on Pacers Digest, scroll to the top of the page, look to the top right where it says 'Settings' and click that. From the settings page, look to the left side of the page where it says 'My Settings', and look down from there until you see 'Edit Ignore List' and click that. From here, it will say 'Add a Member to Your List...' Beneath that, click in the text box to the right of 'User Name', type in or copy & paste the username of the poster you are ignoring, and once their name is in the box, look over to the far right and click the 'Okay' button. All done!

Rule #4

Regarding infractions, currently they carry a value of one point each, and that point will expire in 31 days. If at any point a poster is carrying three points at the same time, that poster will be suspended until the oldest of the three points expires.

Rule #5

When you share or paste content or articles from another website, you must include the URL/link back to where you found it, who wrote it, and what website it's from. Said content will be removed if this doesn't happen.

An example:

If I copy and paste an article from the Indianapolis Star website, I would post something like this:

http://www.linktothearticlegoeshere.com/article
Title of the Article
Author's Name
Indianapolis Star

Rule #6

We cannot tolerate illegal videos on Pacers Digest. This means do not share any links to them, do not mention any websites that host them or link to them, do not describe how to find them in any way, and do not ask about them. Posts doing anything of the sort will be removed, the offenders will be contacted privately, and if the problem becomes habitual, you will be suspended, and if it still persists, you will probably be banned.

The legal means of watching or listening to NBA games are NBA League Pass Broadband (for US, or for International; both cost money) and NBA Audio League Pass (which is free). Look for them on NBA.com.

Rule #7

Provocative statements in a signature, or as an avatar, or as the 'tagline' beneath a poster's username (where it says 'Member' or 'Administrator' by default, if it is not altered) are an unwanted distraction that will more than likely be removed on sight. There can be shades of gray to this, but in general this could be something political or religious that is likely going to provoke or upset people, or otherwise something that is mean-spirited at the expense of a poster, a group of people, or a population.

It may or may not go without saying, but this goes for threads and posts as well, particularly when it's not made on the off-topic board (Market Square).

We do make exceptions if we feel the content is both innocuous and unlikely to cause social problems on the forum (such as wishing someone a Merry Christmas or a Happy Easter), and we also also make exceptions if such topics come up with regards to a sports figure (such as the Lance Stephenson situation bringing up discussions of domestic abuse and the law, or when Jason Collins came out as gay and how that lead to some discussion about gay rights).

However, once the discussion seems to be more/mostly about the political issues instead of the sports figure or his specific situation, the thread is usually closed.

Rule #8

We prefer self-restraint and/or modesty when making jokes or off topic comments in a sports discussion thread. They can be fun, but sometimes they derail or distract from a topic, and we don't want to see that happen. If we feel it is a problem, we will either delete or move those posts from the thread.

Rule #9

Generally speaking, we try to be a "PG-13" rated board, and we don't want to see sexual content or similarly suggestive content. Vulgarity is a more muddled issue, though again we prefer things to lean more towards "PG-13" than "R". If we feel things have gone too far, we will step in.

Rule #10

We like small signatures, not big signatures. The bigger the signature, the more likely it is an annoying or distracting signature.

Rule #11

Do not advertise anything without talking about it with the administrators first. This includes advertising with your signature, with your avatar, through private messaging, and/or by making a thread or post.

    True

Jamaal Tinsley should stay an Indiana Pacer because it's best for the team.

    True

The majority of our problems are the fault of Larry Bird, not Donnie Walsh, Rick Carlisle, Jermaine O'Neal, or other players on the team.

    Larry and Rick

Rick Carlisle should have been fired.

    True (along with Bird)

The Pacers will find a better coach for the Indiana Pacers for the 2007-2008 season than Rick Carlisle.

I hope its true but I am worried. Regardless of if the new coach is better the team will play better because they quit on Rick. Larry Bird was not a better coach than Larry Brown but they went to the finals with Bird.

False TPTB have made some serious boneheaded moves and look to be making another on with the coaching search we need to be able to vent.

The Indiana Pacers have more talent on their current roster than the majority of fans realize.

True we have 6 or 7 talented players we just need to dump the high priced dead weight we acquired this year.

Larry Bird was probably smoking cigars, not weed, with John Mellencamp.

    True well cigarettes

While they may have viewed it as a two-headed operation where one was not more "in charge" than the other, the truth is Donnie Walsh is responsible for most of the moves the Indiana Pacers have made the past 4 seasons.

I wish I knew but it seems hard to believe Donny got that stupid recently.

Dislike of the 80's Boston Celtics and its players has clouded some people's judgments of Larry Bird's job as a General Manager.

Maybe true but I hate Bird as GM and I did not hate the 80's celts (only because I did not start watching NBA until 93)

Too many people pretend to know who is responsible for what in regards to the Indiana Pacers' management, when the truth is no one on the outside knows a thing one way or the other.

      True or False?

Stephen Jackson did things as a Pacer that earned him having some fans dislike him.
      True.

Race was not a major factor in wanting Stephen Jackson gone.
False. It wasn't a major factor, but it was a factor.

Stephen Jackson isn't as bad as he's often made out to be when it comes to behavior.
True, but he's still pretty bad.

The trade with the Golden State Warriors is lop-sided because we got the least talented players.
      False. They got Cabbage.

The trade with the Golden State Warriors is balanced because we dropped talented players who also carried negative issues, while adding less talented players without negative issues.
      Eh, I guess.

The trade with the Golden State Warriors is not a bad trade IF Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Ike Diogu improve/develop.
      True.

Mike Dunleavy Jr. is a smart basketball player.
      True.

Openly and loudly cheering for another team is turning your back on the Indiana Pacers.
False. It's accepting the team turned their back on you.

Maceo Baston is good enough to be in the rotation of a good team.
      Hell no. False.

Jamaal Tinsley will improve under a new coach.
      True.

Jamaal Tinsley should stay an Indiana Pacer because it's best for the team.
      False.

The majority of our problems are the fault of Larry Bird, not Donnie Walsh, Rick Carlisle, Jermaine O'Neal, or other players on the team.
Hee hee. What do you think?

Rick Carlisle should have been fired.
False. He shouldn't have been given the extension.

The Pacers will find a better coach for the Indiana Pacers for the 2007-2008 season than Rick Carlisle.
Better is a subjective term. Better fit, true.

Statistics can be used to support almost any argument, including two sides of the same argument.
Most definitely, and I've got the math degree to prove it.

Indiana Pacers fans are mostly comprised of fickle people who ride the latest bandwagon.
      False.

Keith McLeod can be a solid backup point guard for the Indiana Pacers.
      Solid? False.

Jermaine O'Neal was never good enough to be the best player on a championship team.
      True.

      Eh, not really.

Troy Murphy was limited by injuries this season and will look at least slightly better next year.
      God I hope so.

The Indiana Pacers are closer to being a good team than the majority of fans realize.
      No. N O.

Pacers Digest, as of this posting, is more hostile than it should ever be.
No, that was last summer/fall, where you had the darksiders seeing what was coming, the sunshiners with their heads in the sand, and the fans of individual players (like the CPK's), causing trouble. Now most everybody is past the denial and realize we suck.

The Indiana Pacers have more talent on their current roster than the majority of fans realize.
      False.

Larry Bird was probably smoking cigars, not weed, with John Mellencamp.
I don't care. Haven't even read the thread.

While they may have viewed it as a two-headed operation where one was not more "in charge" than the other, the truth is Donnie Walsh is responsible for most of the moves the Indiana Pacers have made the past 4 seasons.
No, it's Larry, damnit, it's all Larry. [/CaptainAhab]

Dislike of the 80's Boston Celtics and its players has clouded some people's judgments of Larry Bird's job as a General Manager.
No. I don't have a problem with any of the other Celtics.

Too many people pretend to know who is responsible for what in regards to the Indiana Pacers' management, when the truth is no one on the outside knows a thing one way or the other.
Oh, I don't think so. Somebody must know something.

People with sources make their "reports" murky with opinion.
Yeah, probably. Makes it fun, figuring out which is which.

Pacers Digest is damaged beyond repair.
Really? Is that why it keeps crashing?

Herb Simon has more influence on management decisions than we will ever know.
      Oh, I doubt it.

It is possible to be satisfied and happy as a fan of the Indiana Pacers without the team winning a championship.
      Yeah.

Hard core fans take the Indiana Pacers and the NBA too seriously.
      Probably.

False. Just watching him on the NBATV replay of last night's game; he was hopping up and down after not getting a call and his man went down and hit a 3. Glad he's gone.

            Re: True or False 05-10-07

            True or False?

Stephen Jackson did things as a Pacer that earned him having some fans dislike him.
True within reason regarding dislike. Hate, aggressively hostile booing, etc aren't the same as "hey, I don't care for him"

Race was not a major factor in wanting Stephen Jackson gone.
True, but it clearly is a factor. Responses to players like Foster, Croshere and Saras vs JO and Tins suggest it w/out Jack being brought into it.

Stephen Jackson isn't as bad as he's often made out to be when it comes to behavior.
True, because I'm pretty sure cancers ruin teams when they arrive and that getting rid of cancers is supposed to make a team better...otherwise how was he being a cancer?

The trade with the Golden State Warriors is lop-sided because we got the least talented players.
True, but also because they cost something like $5m more per season or more with longer deals (in Jack's case)

The trade with the Golden State Warriors is balanced because we dropped talented players who also carried negative issues, while adding less talented players without negative issues.
False. I'll let the attendence records post-trade speak on that issue.

The trade with the Golden State Warriors is not a bad trade IF Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Ike Diogu improve/develop.
True, but it would require Mike being able to defend at the Jackson level at the SG position and for Ike to be reliable against even the most minor double teams...lots of room to go, naturally if they climb that high the deal looks balanced then. Nothing prior to now suggests that level of change at this point.

Mike Dunleavy Jr. is a smart basketball player.
True, modestly. His smarts are overrated at times and he makes plenty of silly mistakes. Not to mention that many think it's his own brain that is holding back some of his game.

Openly and loudly cheering for another team is turning your back on the Indiana Pacers.
False, unless they are playing against the Pacers. I spent the 80's as a huge Lakers fan, hating the Celtics and Pistons along the way. But in 2000 I hated the Lakers with a passion and have never gone back since the Kobe/Shaq era began. I root for the Suns, now the Warriors, used to be a huge Mavs fan with Det and Tarp

Maceo Baston is good enough to be in the rotation of a good team.
False, maybe. 8th guy? Yeah, I can see that certainly.

Jamaal Tinsley will improve under a new coach.
False. His flaws have never changed. Doesn't take care of the ball, doesn't play man-up defense very well, has no outside shot, always has had issues finishing at the rim. That's college, Isiah and Rick.

Jamaal Tinsley should stay an Indiana Pacer because it's best for the team.
Iffy, depends on the deal. He isn't horrible at all, he does seem to lack motivation, he will always be flawed as mentioned but is good enough to be part of a strong team...61 wins says that clearly.

The majority of our problems are the fault of Larry Bird, not Donnie Walsh, Rick Carlisle, Jermaine O'Neal, or other players on the team.
True, but I wonder. Rick's first year the players were basically the Walsh assembled group. Since then things got worse and since then Bird's fingerprints have to have been more on the team than when they got here he must be a strong suspect. How much has been DW, we just don't know for sure. Rick won in Detroit with no Bird, DW or JO. DW's teams have won without Bird. Only JO and Bird are truly uproven on their own in their current roles.

Rick Carlisle should have been fired.
False, but it that's the NBA for you. That's one reason teams continue to struggle, they change coaches but not players. You don't dump a guy who per season has been better than Sloan at this point, with Sloan just missing the post season a couple of seasons ago. Guys that lost in round 1 this year - Phil, JVG, Riley, Avery, COY Mitchell. Coaches have years like this, when it's once every 6 years it means they are great coaches. Scoreboard trumps all opinions.

The Pacers will find a better coach for the Indiana Pacers for the 2007-2008 season than Rick Carlisle.
False, probably. SVG is interesting, Ivoroni is interesting, heck JVG is interesting. But the bar is high, winning division titles and hitting the ECF every 3rd year is not the norm out there.

Statistics can be used to support almost any argument, including two sides of the same argument.
False. Not the same statistics. Stats are facts. All GOOD arguments are made by logic and facts, BAD arguments are based solely on opinion. When 1 set of facts suggests different views it's due to OPINION entering the debate, as in "I think those stats means X, not Y".

Indiana Pacers fans are mostly comprised of fickle people who ride the latest bandwagon.
True, at least since around 98 or so. Of course that's true of Indiana fans period, or did everyone stop going to IU in the 90's and did the RCA dome suddenly start selling itself out after years of apathy despite wins.

Keith McLeod can be a solid backup point guard for the Indiana Pacers.
False, Saras impact perhaps, but better than a Felton or Ellis or even Fisher? Nope.

Jermaine O'Neal was never good enough to be the best player on a championship team.
False, I think healthy JO hitting 48% of his shots is plenty good enough to lead the way. Haven't seen much of that lately.

Jermaine O'Neal was never good enough to be the best player on a championship team, but the Indiana Pacers should still keep him unless there's a "no brainer" trade offer.
True, talent is money in the NBA. You can't bartar and improve without it. That's why you should never overpay on talent in a trade. Certainly contract costs are a factor, but that still doesn't warrant a foolish "let's just move him to start fresh" attitude.

Think of it as selling the stuff you have now to pay for the refurb on your home. The cheaper you go at the garage sale the less nice your house is going to look later. You may need the current stuff gone to start the process, but rushing it out only brings it to a halt later instead.

Jermaine O'Neal is good enough to be the best player on a championship team.
Didn't you just ask this? Yes, if JO could return to that level of shooting and be there down the stretch without major injury then yes. Not certain he's there or will be in the future.

Contrary posters can go too far with their stance and become detrimental to a debate.
True, but since half these questions appear based around me then I wonder if detrimental is code for "just won't shut up and agree with us". Was it detrimental last year when people complained about JO, Jack and Tins every day?

Troy Murphy was limited by injuries this season and will look at least slightly better next year.
False, WYSIWYG there. He'll get hot from 3 but he's not a good defender and nowhere near the rebounder Foster is. Not much else to say.

The Indiana Pacers are closer to being a good team than the majority of fans realize.
False, though I do think things could line up, I think that falls heavily on what happens with Danny, Shawne and Dun. But honestly I think the team is closer to disaster than a majority of fans realize.

Pacers Digest, as of this posting, is more hostile than it should ever be.
            False. I don't think it's that bad.

The Indiana Pacers have more talent on their current roster than the majority of fans realize.
            False.

Larry Bird was probably smoking cigars, not weed, with John Mellencamp.
Sheesh, isn't there a thread for this already.

While they may have viewed it as a two-headed operation where one was not more "in charge" than the other, the truth is Donnie Walsh is responsible for most of the moves the Indiana Pacers have made the past 4 seasons.
False, Shawne, Saras, Baston for certain weren't DW. Al, maybe, GS deal maybe, but I think that stuff was even a case of both or perhaps DW helping Bird take the team in a direction Larry wanted.

Dislike of the 80's Boston Celtics and its players has clouded some people's judgments of Larry Bird's job as a General Manager.
False, GM X takes team from title contender to doghouse. Most places GM X is fired. Come on.

Too many people pretend to know who is responsible for what in regards to the Indiana Pacers' management, when the truth is no one on the outside knows a thing one way or the other.
False, who's pretending? Bird said he scouted Shawne, Bird spent months in Europe scouting Saras and Baston. The rest is gray and everyone admits that.

People with sources make their "reports" murky with opinion.
Not sure what this refers to.

Pacers Digest is damaged beyond repair.
Is Able not telling us something?

Herb Simon has more influence on management decisions than we will ever know.
            True.

It is possible to be satisfied and happy as a fan of the Indiana Pacers without the team winning a championship.
True, it is for me at least.

Hard core fans take the Indiana Pacers and the NBA too seriously.
False, I don't see anyone around here do more than discuss the team actively. Did I miss the part where people gave up their regular lives for the team other than sitting at Perkins till 3 am?

                Re: True or False 05-10-07

                True or False?

Stephen Jackson did things as a Pacer that earned him having some fans dislike him.
                True

Race was not a major factor in wanting Stephen Jackson gone.
Race was a factor, but it had more to do with attitude. Jack reminded me a lot of Jeff George for the Colts, and everyone was pretty happy when he was gone.

Stephen Jackson isn't as bad as he's often made out to be when it comes to behavior.
I'd rate his citizenship as "below average" but I wouldn't condemn him as a terrible hardened criminal like some people on this board tend to.

The trade with the Golden State Warriors is lop-sided because we got the least talented players.
False. Harrington didn't fit into our system and I don't like the way he plays anyway. Saranus sucked terribly. Jackson was a good player but he was inconsistent and prone to melting down. The player I wish we would have retained, believe it or not, is Josh Powell. If we still had him we should have simply let Maceo go and resigned Powell to a 2-3 year deal.

The trade with the Golden State Warriors is balanced because we dropped talented players who also carried negative issues, while adding less talented players without negative issues.
Eh, kind of. We were bordering on mediocrity before, and now we're not very good at all, which might compel us to improve faster than we actually would have improved before.

The trade with the Golden State Warriors is not a bad trade IF Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Ike Diogu improve/develop.
True, but that's a pretty big if

Mike Dunleavy Jr. is a smart basketball player.
                False

Openly and loudly cheering for another team is turning your back on the Indiana Pacers.
False. It's accepting the team turned their back on you. (I like that answer to whoever provided it originally)

Maceo Baston is good enough to be in the rotation of a good team.
True. He was poorly utilized by Carloser like so many other Pacers. The list is endless.

Jamaal Tinsley will improve under a new coach.
False. He won't be here for the new coach.

Jamaal Tinsley should stay an Indiana Pacer because it's best for the team.
                False.

The majority of our problems are the fault of Larry Bird, not Donnie Walsh, Rick Carlisle, Jermaine O'Neal, or other players on the team.
                True

Rick Carlisle should have been fired.
                Absolutely True

The Pacers will find a better coach for the Indiana Pacers for the 2007-2008 season than Rick Carlisle.
Probably not. But we weren't going anywhere with Carlisle and we need to alter our style of play. It's a long rebuilding process. But maybe.

Statistics can be used to support almost any argument, including two sides of the same argument.
                Of course

                False.

Keith McLeod can be a solid backup point guard for the Indiana Pacers.
                Definately true

Jermaine O'Neal was never good enough to be the best player on a championship team.
False. He's the league's best second option, however.

Jermaine O'Neal was never good enough to be the best player on a championship team, but the Indiana Pacers should still keep him unless there's a "no brainer" trade offer.

Eh, I'll go with true, although I probably have a more liberal definition of a "no brainer" than some people on this board.

Jermaine O'Neal is good enough to be the best player on a championship team.

                False.

Contrary posters can go too far with their stance and become detrimental to a debate.
It can happen but it's not only true.

Troy Murphy was limited by injuries this season and will look at least slightly better next year.
                I'd like to hope so.

The Indiana Pacers are closer to being a good team than the majority of fans realize.
Um..I don't know what most fans really think. I'd say they're a middle of the road team that, if they make a couple of dramatic moves, can contend in the next 5-7 years but probably no better than that. They need to get on the right path to rebuilding, and even if their record isn't good, I'll consider them a good franchise moving in the right direction.

Pacers Digest, as of this posting, is more hostile than it should ever be.
                True.

The Indiana Pacers have more talent on their current roster than the majority of fans realize.
                True

Larry Bird was probably smoking cigars, not weed, with John Mellencamp.
False. It was the 1970's and they were talking about smoking under the table. That didn't have anything to do with cigars. Anyone who thinks otherwise hasn't enjoyed the night life since 1962

While they may have viewed it as a two-headed operation where one was not more "in charge" than the other, the truth is Donnie Walsh is responsible for most of the moves the Indiana Pacers have made the past 4 seasons.
I'd hope that it was Larry and that Donnie hasn't lost his touch and his ability to set the franchise on the right course right before he leaves.

Dislike of the 80's Boston Celtics and its players has clouded some people's judgments of Larry Bird's job as a General Manager.
                Hahaha, absolutely not.

Too many people pretend to know who is responsible for what in regards to the Indiana Pacers' management, when the truth is no one on the outside knows a thing one way or the other.
                True. That's fair.

People with sources make their "reports" murky with opinion.
True, but that's every aspect of the media.

Pacers Digest is damaged beyond repair.
I wish the admins were a little less polarizing, but it's not enough of a problem for me to make some dumb thread cussing them out and then getting banned. Ok, I'll shut my mouth and obey the rules

Herb Simon has more influence on management decisions than we will ever know.
I doubt it, but I don't think anyone knows for sure. Oh, to own a sports team!

It is possible to be satisfied and happy as a fan of the Indiana Pacers without the team winning a championship.
                True

Hard core fans take the Indiana Pacers and the NBA too seriously.

                  Re: True or False 05-10-07

Stephen Jackson did things as a Pacer that earned him having some fans dislike him. True

Race was not a major factor in wanting Stephen Jackson gone. False

Stephen Jackson isn't as bad as he's often made out to be when it comes to behavior. Depends on what day it is.

The trade with the Golden State Warriors is lop-sided because we got the least talented players. See Kegboy's answer.

The trade with the Golden State Warriors is balanced because we dropped talented players who also carried negative issues, while adding less talented players without negative issues. Let's see: team who hadn't been in the playoffs for 13 years get in and the team who hadn't been out of the playoffs in 10 years misses. I'm sure there's some statistics guru who could say that balances the universe or something like that.

The trade with the Golden State Warriors is not a bad trade IF Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Ike Diogu improve/develop. True, if they improve/develop enough to get the Pacers into at least the 2nd round of the playoffs.

Mike Dunleavy Jr. is a smart basketball player. Uh, true?

Openly and loudly cheering for another team is turning your back on the Indiana Pacers. Only if the other team is playing the Pacers at that time and you have your back to the court. New Question: If you're openly and loudly cheering for another team and no one is there to listen are you turning your back on the Pacers?

Maceo Baston is good enough to be in the rotation of a good team. Uh, whatever Kegboy said.

Jamaal Tinsley will improve under a new coach. Only if the coach is Dr. Rudy Wells from "The Six Million Dollar Man" and "The Bionic Woman."

Jamaal Tinsley should stay an Indiana Pacer because it's best for the team. False.

The majority of our problems are the fault of Larry Bird, not Donnie Walsh, Rick Carlisle, Jermaine O'Neal, or other players on the team.
Depends on how you look at it. To me Larry is 50% at fault. If you add up Donnie, Rick, Jermaine, and the rest of the team they're 50% at fault. I think that's a statistical push.

On the other hand if you think Larry is running the team then everything that Rick, Jermaine, and the rest of the team do is on him so I think that gives him the majority.

But then there's the fact that Donnie hired Larry in the first place so...my head hurts.

Rick Carlisle should have been fired. He shouldn't have gotten a contract extension in the first place.

The Pacers will find a better coach for the Indiana Pacers for the 2007-2008 season than Rick Carlisle. Depending on who's playing for the team I'm not sure Mr. Neismith could fix it. John Wooden would be smart enough not to even try.

Statistics can be used to support almost any argument, including two sides of the same argument. See colored answer above.

Indiana Pacers fans are mostly comprised of fickle people who ride the latest bandwagon. The fans last year or seven years ago?

Keith McLeod can be a solid backup point guard for the Indiana Pacers. I don't know, but I do know he's not better than Tinsley.

Jermaine O'Neal was never good enough to be the best player on a championship team. If he ever was 11/19 took care of that.

Jermaine O'Neal was never good enough to be the best player on a championship team, but the Indiana Pacers should still keep him unless there's a "no brainer" trade offer. No one is untradeable if the return is good enough (and no you can't have any Bulls in return for him).

Jermaine O'Neal is good enough to be the best player on a championship team. Well, since Lisa Leslie is on maternity leave this year I think he is as long as he's playing in the WNBA.

Contrary posters can go too far with their stance and become detrimental to a debate. I don't know because I put them on my ignore list before it becomes an issue with me.

Troy Murphy was limited by injuries this season and will look at least slightly better next year. So you're telling me he's the new version of Jamal Tinsley/Jonathan Bender.

The Indiana Pacers are closer to being a good team than the majority of fans realize. Depends on what your definition of good is. Best team not in the playoffs would be an improvement over this year, but I wouldn't say that is good.

Pacers Digest, as of this posting, is more hostile than it should ever be. It's been more hostile. I don't know what level of hostility is acceptable.

The Indiana Pacers have more talent on their current roster than the majority of fans realize. Mega FALSE

Larry Bird was probably smoking cigars, not weed, with John Mellencamp. There are so many places I could go with this, but I'll keep my mouth shut.

While they may have viewed it as a two-headed operation where one was not more "in charge" than the other, the truth is Donnie Walsh is responsible for most of the moves the Indiana Pacers have made the past 4 seasons. If you believe that Donnie all the sudden forgot how to run a team then you can believe he made this mess. Me, I think that statement is false.

Dislike of the 80's Boston Celtics and its players has clouded some people's judgments of Larry Bird's job as a General Manager. False

Too many people pretend to know who is responsible for what in regards to the Indiana Pacers' management, when the truth is no one on the outside knows a thing one way or the other. I know a person or two who know a person or two on the inside so I think that means I know everything that goes on inside the Pacers organization. I know it means I know more than the people at Channel 13 do.

People with sources make their "reports" murky with opinion. If you're referring to Peter Vesey I'd say that is absolutely, positively TRUE!

Pacers Digest is damaged beyond repair. Seems to be working fine at the moment.

Herb Simon has more influence on management decisions than we will ever know. Considering he owns the team I don't have a problem with that statement. However, I don't know if it's true or not.

It is possible to be satisfied and happy as a fan of the Indiana Pacers without the team winning a championship. 100% satisfied and 100% happy without a championship is a statistical improbability.

Hard core fans take the Indiana Pacers and the NBA too seriously. Don't you just hate questions where both answers are correct?
