In a sense, yes. The NBA needs to do something about free agency or just get rid of all of the small/mid market franchises and leave the LA/NY/etc teams. But there are actually players who want to play for the Pacers. George Hill did, Teague does, Lance does. I imagine Gordon Hayward would at least consider it depending on how the rest of the roster looks.

Yeah, he tweeted that earlier. Ask for a lot, hope for something worthwhile.

Taking a risk with PG/AD is probably the best chance New Orleans has of keeping Davis honestly.
They traded their pick this year to get Cousins, so they can't trade next year's pick (at least not until after the draft is over). They have all of their remaining picks, but no others.

Re: George informs Pacers of intent to Leave: Woj

Not much to say that hasn't already been said, but I'd like to offer my gratitude to this board for existing and allowing me to read through 22 pages of discussion ranging from trading for surprisingly good packages like all three Portland picks, to giving Paul the Tinsley treatment for personal satisfaction of the fans, to blaming literally anyone who's ever said the word "pacers" for the now inevitable move to Seattle. The broad range of meltdowns to "meh" has done wonders for my ability to cope with relatively bad news.

To me, PG was never going to be on the level of guys like KD, LBJ, or Westbrook and lead us out of the ECF. Maybe if we could've signed two other stars at his level and gotten a real championship coach, but odds were slim. I liked his game enough, when he played hard, but I never cared for his personality or "leadership" or his "my ***** don't stink" attitude.

Short of raising his play to MVP levels and leading us to a title (or turning down the supermax to allow a couple major signings), he was also never going to replace Reggie in my eyes, and I'd venture to guess many other eyes.

Ultimately, I view him on par with JO in terms of being a great player, poor leader, and now spurning the team for what boils down to pride. I don't really fault him for leaving, it's his right to do with his career as he sees best. It's unfortunate that it's playing out this way, but I don't see it as the end of the world like many do. We'll get some sort of package that likely won't be as bad as Murphy/Dunleavy, we'll make other moves and move forward with Myles Turner and whatever we can get via trades and draft.

I'd pass on re-signing Teague now. And I would've passed on CJ either way. I'd trade Thad for another pick, even if it is early second round, but I'd prefer late first obviously. Monta and AlJeff have to be cut, stretched, sold however we can without giving up picks this year. The trade for PG needs to only be picks, youth, and/or expirings. No long term deals and I'm not hung up on getting guaranteed top-tier youth. This draft is stacked with solid players, even if they're not all MVPs, so there's a lot to like, and plenty of guys you can win with.

It sucked seeing the headline, but we will press on and recover. If we made it through the 80s and through the brawl, we'll make it through this. Let's see what Pritch can do.
It's a new day for Pacers Basketball.

I assume the Pacers want two early first round picks, if we're going to take picks in the 20's, we may as well just let PG walk. Hell, we gave up a first round pick for like a 2-year rental of an old Scola, so PG should have a much higher return than that.

You guys need to stop equating Pritchard and Bird as the same. Completely different regime now.

Re: George informs Pacers of intent to Leave: Woj

I'm shocked at the amount of people who think Paul George is beholden to a franchise whose best solution to arming him for a title run was finding Monta Ellis and Jeff Teague to throw in the lineup.

Ask for 100% but will accept 30-50% is probably the Pacers method at this point, they better trade PG before/during the draft so that if/when they get extra picks they can possibly make other deals too. Hoping Pritchard is going to be active in this draft, make a couple moves.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

Well Bird only stepped down a couple months ago and Pritchard has been here for the past few years at the same time so yeah I think at the very least there's an overlap for the time being.

Paul's a 4 asset player. You start out asking for 3, probably walk out with 2. Hope they're good.

It never hurts to ask, but.......Good luck getting a team to agree to that.
