    Re: 2017 Free Agent Targets

I guess Ibaka is a realistic option unless he said he would resign with the Raptors and I don't know about it. Question would be is pairing Myles with a pf like Ibaka better than say making Myles the pf and signing a big defensive minded Center.

OF course an Ibaka signing would probably mean the end of Teauge since the money would be a ton to get Ibaka but then again Teague could be replaced in the draft.

Pacers best option is Gallinari, I don't see anybody else available.

IF the Raptors are needing to sign Lowry and Ibaka then I think they will have to decide between one or the other. Currently both make around 12 mill per year and both will want 25 mill + so I doubt they can sign both of them. IF I had to guess and its a difficult one but I would think they would keep Ibaka and role with Joseph as a replacement for Lowry.

            Re: 2017 Free Agent Targets

I apologize in advance if this has already been brought up, but assuming we pick up the team options of Lavoy, Joe Young and GRIII for the 17-18 season in addition to having PG, Thad, Ellis, big Al, Lance, Myles, Seraphin, Christmas, and Niang under contract for the 17-18 season, we will have roughly $70 million tied up. If the salary cap is at say $102 million for the 17-18 season, we have roughly $32 million to spend. Assuming we do not trade neither our draft picks for this year draft, they could equal somewhere around $3.5 million for both players combined during their first season. Also, I doubt CJ Miles picks up his player option for a measly $4.5 million for next season.

Question is, what do we do with the estimated $28.5-$29 million in free agency?

            My vote is:

Resign Teague, the man deserves to get some money as long as its not Mike Conley type. He is a true PG that we have been missing here for awhile(George Hill was not a PG, more a SG but that can be argued depending who you talk to)
Resign CJ Miles for a 3 and D type player off the bench, but do not overpay him(He's at least an average defender).
If you cannot land CJ Miles, then try for a few of the following: Taj Gibson(Backup PF), PJ Tucker(3 and D type guy off the bench), B Bogdanovic(guy can shoot the 3 ball), Serge Ibaka(Backup or Starting PF, however that's a lot of money tied up between Serge and Thad for one position).

Gallinari will not bring much defense, rebounding or toughness to the front line all of which is in short supply with the Pacers. I think he would be a nice player to have but certainly he would not solve the bigger issues which is why I think Lowry or Ibaka would be better overall. IF I had to choose then I think I would choose Lowry. He simply defends at a much higher level than Teague.

On Paper.....I like Gallinari. In reality though, that guy is injury prone. Prior to this season, he's averaged 55 games over the last 5 seasons where he's missed 1 game for every 3 that he has played.

If we have A LOT of depth where we have a quality backup to him, I'd be fine with pursuing him....but if he's our primary Starter with little depth behind him...pass.

I know...one would question why as well....but it's pretty well known that Butler doesn't appear to be getting along with either the FO or the Coach ( don't remember which ).

Here is to hoping Warriors win the title, just so that David West gets his ring and returns to Indy for the minimum this Summer. We got back our Lance...now we need our "Lance Whisperer".

Assuming that he wants to stay and we are paying fair market value to re-sign him....then I will be glad to re-sign Teague.

As I have said before....I am done playing PG roulette every season.
                        That's fair.

For some reason, Indiana feels like it's never been a PG friendly team. To me, I rather shave money off the starting PG spot by inserting Lance or even Ellis, and chasing a bigger wing player to put alongside George. Personally, I'm more tired having two undersized players in the backcourt. Granted, if GR3 continues to develops, then that issue might resolve itself.

Remember when we could have gotten 1-2 solid players and a possible Top 3 draft pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by trading away Paul George?

If you sign Hayward him or Paul would be playing the SG position.

The way to address this is easy.

Thank Bird for his Mock Draft list and request that he step down. We get a new FO, a new Offensive Strategy, direction, Coach and ( hopefully ) a Team where Starting PGs don't come do die.

Same thing here.....it's easy to address an undersized backcourt....just sign or trade for a legit and real SG as opposed to yet another Combo-Guard.

Again...that's all on Bird's love of amassing undersized Guards.

If there was a way to just make Bird our Draft King and let him do nothing else....I'd do it. He's not fool proof or anything.....I'm just saying that he has a good track record when it comes to picking talent from the draft.

But if you don't think so...that's fine....that's beside the point.

I'm just saying that one of the main reason why we have had continual small back courts and Indiana has become the place where Starting Qaulity PGs come to die is because of the way that Bird wants to build a roster and run the offense.
