Re: West declines his player option

Dave blames the team for not being a contender. Blames Larry for throwing Roy under the bus. Then paints himself as some kind of hero for not accepting a trade? Like I said, David West is gonna look out for David West.

I don't think PG will ever be the type of player to lead a team I'll put it that way I guess. And good for him, have fun my man, but he's not gonna lead you anywhere.
The other side of that coin is how loyal is too loyal? Miami (presumably) and LA are putting themselves in purgatory to pay older players for past performances. Did Bird need to say what he did? Maybe not. To me that's not a huge deal. He did well in obtaining West and Roy and he is being smart moving on at this time.

No, I don't necessarily think we would have. And we did hear 'things', but nothing was handed to us on a silver platter. But I don't think we'd hear the absolute down and dirtiest stuff with the team being on the perceived upswing and trying to make amends for the Tinsley/Artest/Sjax/JO years. The local media has always been pretty good about sugar coating things until they just absolutely had to tell us what is going on. Or let us know after the fact.
Nuntius was right for a while. I was wrong for a while. But ultimately I was right and Frank Vogel has been let go.

Except that he said it was annoying, but not, ultimately, the reason he left.

Jeez....West needs to look in the mirror. He gave less effort last year than anybody on the team.

Uhhh last I read he said it bothered him but DID NOT play a role in his decision. Did I miss something?

Love West, but the guy takes zero blame for last year in that article.

No, go back a re-read. Distinction with a difference. "Not the reason he left". Is the phrase that is different than what you are saying here. "Did not play a role".

It it may not be the reason he left, but could be a reason and it may have played a role in why he left

Not to mention the Bird hate was fired up in this thread well before West made his comments about Bird and Hibbert.
There are two types of quarterbacks in the league: Those whom over time, the league figures out ... and those who figure out the league.

Re: West declines his player option

I don't know if West gave less effort than anybody or if I'd say he give little to no effort. But my perception was that he was not nearly as motivated as in previous seasons. And I recall a TV interview I saw with him in the summer after the PG injury where he was extremely depressed. He basically said, everything went out the window and the season was now totally different - from a contending standpoint. And that's definitely true. But, all the wind just seemed to be out of his sales already. And the irony is, with PG coming back with essentially the same major roster pieces, he no longer looks at the group as a contender.

Whether it's Peyton Manning or David West.....whether he's at the Indy Star or WTHR.......Bob Kravitz ALWAYS gets the biggest scoop when a big name athlete wants to spill his guts out.

Fine if you read it that way, but technically it's reading between the lines. Just like everyone else is doing regardless of their "narrative".

Maybe when Roy leaves those things he may be doing behind the scenes will come out. Lance stealing rebounds had to have been a topic of discussion behind the scenes or else Bird never would have brought it up. Lance had to have been Roy's cop out for why he's 7'2 and is not a great at getting rebounds. And Lance's ball hogging is why he's not getting many baskets. With those "selfish dudes" out of the way and stinking the way he did this past year while making near max money, that had to have ticked Bird off for him to say what he said.
