    Most exciting thing in basketball?

Discussion in other thread made me thing about this...

What is for you the most exciting single thing what can happen in basketball court (in generic game, not team- or player-specific)

For me it is not even close - NOTHING excites me like a shot clock violation. That's the highest achievement in my subjective mind.

It is followed by 8- or 10-second backcourt violation (depending which rules are followed).

Offensive fouls on attempted attacks on rim probably come 3rd ie. taking a charge.

From offensive team I get most kicks from passes which result an open lay-up in half-court offense. Might even beat taking a charge

What? If that is what you would most like seeing your team achieve is to
violate the shot clock, then you don't have very high aspirations for them.

For me, it's easily a rejection at the rim, especially ones that set franchises based in New York back five years, like I don't know......

          Or this one:

"And David put his hand in the bag and took out a stone and slung it. And it struck the Philistine on the head and he fell to the ground. Amen. "

As much as I enjoy a good wlin; winning is the most exciting thing.

Nah, in all seriousness, think of all those scenarios you played out on your driveway (or at the park, or at the local Y, or wherever) when you were a kid. Game 7, 1 second left on the clock, biggest rival, down two points, you hit a three, and everything ends there.

For what it's worth, the most excited I've ever gotten over basketball (or anything else in my life, if we're being honest) is the Watford three to beat Kentucky at Assembly Hall a few years ago. All kinds of reasons for that; IU fans would understand better probably given the context of where the program was, where it had been, the Kentucky team we were playing (BEAT THE BROW), etc.

I screamed like a little girl when Reggie hit that three on the Jordan push off.
There are two types of quarterbacks in the league: Those whom over time, the league figures out ... and those who figure out the league.

I love really, really nice passes. I mean passes that require such great court awareness that you rarely see them. If you want to know what I mean, look up a Larry Bird high light reel. A no look over the head pass as he rebounds the ball requires such keen awareness and trust in his team mates. It is cool to see when it happens.

This is also really nice. Watching a player mature from athletic freak to full blown superstardom. Especially when you could just see it coming. Doesn't hurt that it was in the ECF against the best player in the world, either.

What I expect from all games the most is to see people foul out (especially when they play against us). Whenever I see a 2 or 3 OT game, I say to myself: "Oh, man, a lot of people should have fouled out here." Then I open the boxscore and enjoy.

I watch quite a lot of especially college basketball games where I definitely do not have my team. I just watch the game and maybe start to favor one team for some reason...

But I really get excited when defending team manages to force a shot clock violation!

Especially in a case where I only enjoy the game, not caring about the victor - Possessions ending without a score are more entertaining than scoring ones.

I would agree, but it seems like about 90 percent of the time when I see a violation, especially in college, it is because of bad offense. I hate seeing guys dribbling the air out of the ball.

Absolutely. My grandmother was only in her early fifties when I was born and was a decent athlete. As a kid in her driveway I used to be Reggie and she was John Starks. If I still lived in Indy I'm sure we'd still be playing horse together all the time.

Two things I really appreciate are good rim protection (probably why I love Ian more than most on this board) and great ball movement that leads to a corner 3.

I think I'm right up there with the forced shot clock violation. Nothing I like better than watching a homed-in defense cover every option an offense attempts, ending with a tipped shot that misses the rim or a trapped player having to make an extra pass.

On offense, I love when someone gets free for a back cut and gets hit with a sudden pass for a layup or quick dunk.
