Another exciting season is right around the corner, as the IKL opens up play alongside the NBA on Tuesday, October 25th! The DC Dreamers, the first defending champs since the Baltimore dynasty of the early years, are eyeing a three-peat in 2017, but nineteen other teams will seek to dethrone them over the next seven months of fantasy basketball. A lot of questions abound as the teams report for training camp. Will the youth movements in Baltimore and Canyonville begin to bear fruit? Will the Syracuse locker room fall apart without the calming veteran presence of Tim Duncan? And, conversely, will the Indy Cobras perform better without the Kobe retirement sideshow? Can the Eastern Conference repair its tattered reputation? Or will the Western Conference maintain its dominance? The answers will come in due time, but first, some prep work to begin the year.
Below are the teams that competed in the 2015-16 International Keeper League season. I've already added everyone's team to the league page on the sports.ws site, but I would appreciate confirmation from all returning owners as soon as possible. So, if you haven't done so already, please take a minute to answer the roll call on the fantasy league forum. SIXTEEN brave souls have answered the call!

Preliminary Dates & Deadlines
Team Registration Deadline - Oct. 8
Replacement Owner's Draft (if necessary) - Oct. 10
Draft Lottery - Oct. 12
Preseason Trading Period Begins - Oct. 12
Protected Lists Due - Oct. 15
Rookies and Free Agent Draft - Oct. 19-24
The draft will be held as close to the start of the NBA regular season as possible. This is, of course, to give all owners an equal chance to draw wild conclusions from all but meaningless preseason games. Conversely, the draft lottery will be held as soon as possible so as to allow for preseason trade talks to commence in earnest. The format of the draft lottery is as follows:
1st Round:
All eight teams that missed the playoffs will have a chance to win the #1 overall pick, but the lottery odds will be weighed heavily in favor of the lesser teams. Unlike the NBA draft lottery, the IKL draft lottery will draw for the top five spots instead of simply the top three. The remaining twelve teams (those who participated in the 2016 postseason) will draft in reverse order of their average FPPG last season.
2nd Round:
The bottom fifteen teams (by record) will all have a shot at the #21 overall pick, but once again lottery odds will be weighed heavily in favor of the lesser teams. The IKL draft lottery will draw for the top eight spots in the second round. The remaining five teams will draft in reverse order of the average FPPG.
3rd Round:
All bets are off here, as every team will have a shot at the #41 overall pick. Odds will again be weighed in favor of the lesser teams, but all the extras from last season - drug testing, unused minutes, forum activity - will be factored into the calculations for each team's chances.
4th Round:
All teams will draft in the reverse order of their finish (FPPG) last season.
Well, that's it for right now. Keep an eye out for updates both here on PD and in the sports.ws league forums. If you guys want to discuss contraction, expansion, realignment or anything else, please use this thread or the 'General Trash Talk' thread on the site. All comments, questions, and criticisms - constructive or otherwise - are welcome. Look forward to hearing from you, thanks!
