The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor likes the fit

“Some poor soul is going to take him high,” Verno said. “If he goes 9 to Memphis you’ll never see me again.”

Verno was, of course, talking about Zach Edey, who his Memphis Grizzlies selected with the ninth pick. God, I love this podcast.

And by the way, Verno will fall in love soon. So will all Grizzlies fans. Edey is going from Braden Smith to Ja Morant as his point guard. Morant will create easier shots for him than he’s ever had before. And he’s going to be supported on defense with some stout perimeter defenders and a former Defensive Player of the Year in Jaren Jackson Jr.

There wasn’t a better fit for Edey in the entire draft than Memphis. I wasn’t sure it’d happen. The Grizzlies want to play fast. And they will. But it turns out they also want to be able to slow it down. And now with Edey, they will be able to play any way they want to, and both dictate matchups and respond to matchups in a playoff setting

Alright, oaf vs oaf, Edey vs Kessler in Summer League play

We got Filipowski in there too, but I don't he really qualifies

Edey misses a massive putback slam to take the lead late but gets the tip on the intentionally-missed 2nd free throw to send the game into OT

Double-double, something like 13 points, 12 rebounds and a couple of blocks. It's just Summer League, can't be taken seriously, but nice 1st game

Edey goes from longshot ROY candidate to co-favorite, according to the betting money

Zach Edey is now the consensus betting favorite for the NBA Rookie of the Year after his outstanding summer league debut with the Grizzlies.

Damn, Memphis saw enough in that one game and shut down Edey down for the rest of the Summer League

He rolled his ankle in the 1st half but then played most of the 2nd half and OT. It's understandable that after that they would sit him out the 2nd day of a back-to-back but Memphis actually sat all the 1st game starters in the 2nd game and from all reports Zac's ankle is fine
