    Purdue Athletics 2022 - 2023

    It's time

If I could edit the subject of the thread I would. Probably better for the database server not to have huge threads, not that that one was anywhere near being huge

Bits of Purdue news - Garrett Miller out for the season for Purdue football, that sucks. Dravyn Gibbs Lawhorn de-commits from Purdue Basketball and re-opens recruiting. Getting a lot of interest and almost certainly will not be coming to Purdue. That sucks too but you can't really lose what you never had, and it's the new reality, better have backup plans in place, and probably wouldn't hurt to over-commit as a general practice

i just can't get too much into it, i guess because of NLI and the bad loss to St Peter's last year...seems like both teams will take a step back....

A lot of people are (overly?) optimistic about the football team this year, despite losing Bell and Karlaftis but we'll find out something tomorrow night against Penn State in a nationally televised game. The Nittany Lions are only 11-11 over the last two years. If the Boilers win, a 4-0 start is within reach. The Boilers defense should be pretty good but the offense, other than O'Connell, is a unknown quantity. A lot of new faces although the O-line should be as good as it has been in the Brohm era

Zander Horvath makes the 53-man roster for the Los Angeles Chargers, at least for now. A waiver wire pickup could displace him but right now he's the only fullback on the roster

Iowa receiver transfers really showing out in the 1st quarter but Purdue's drive stalls and they settle for the field goal. Boilers defense has forced Penn State to punt their first two possessions, 3rd time coming up with Purdue up 3 - 0

Wow, Purdue's defense gets 3 penalties on one play; offsides, defensive holding, and defensive pass interference. On a 3rd and 8. However, Purdue leads 10 - 7 halfway through the 2nd quarter

Purdue driving deep into Penn State territory late in the 1st half to take the lead back and then the gut punch turnover and then of course Penn State gets a TD right before halftime to go up double-digits

However, the Purdue offense looks sharp and they drive down the field to open the 2nd half with a TD, not over yet and O'Connell is starting to cook. Jones looks like a real get

After sputtering all 2nd half the Penn State offense drives 80 yards in about a minute and they take the lead 35 - 31, with 57 seconds left

Charlie Jones has 21 receptions and 4 TDs through two games for Purdue after having 21 receptions and 3 TDs all season for Iowa last year. He looks like some supercharged hybrid of Vinny Sutherland and all the Anthrop boys. Purdue totally flattens Indiana State. I even laid and covered the 37 point line. I haven't seen a Purdue football team dominate like that in quite some time and it will probably be a long stretch before we see it again

Yeah I know what you mean about the NiL but the way I look at it is this is probably the last 'good' year of college sports before NiL really takes hold and with the football team looking good for a bowl bid, and O'Connell primed to have a great year, and the basketball team untested but full of talent (at least to my eye) I have to ride this year out. I could be fooling myself and NiL already has too much effect, but I have a lot of time invested in the current teams so we'll see
